More insurance woes !
« on: 23 June 2011, 09:07:30 »

just been onto SWMBO's insurance company to get it changed from the vectra , which was scrapped to a w reg. 1.2 corsa.

The insurance company say they can't insure her on this vehicle because of the type of vehicle it is.  They will of course insure her with one of their other companies at , you've guessed it , a greatly increased premium.

How can a car that is only a group 2 be more of a risk than one that was group 11.

I said thanks but no thanks, we will go elsewhere. They said, As the old car was scrapped,  they are going to charge us a cancellation fee for the old policy, although it only has 5 weeks to run.

I said we will just let the old policy run out, they say we can't do that as the car was scrapped, and the policy is now void and a cancellation fee is payable.

Seems to me motor insurance is the biggest rip off most people will come across nowadays. >:( >:( >:( >:(

Rant over - but still rageing >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

If there's only  weeks to run you must have already paid in full? If so (and only if it's fully paid), tell them you are not paying a cancellation fee as you have already paid to have it on cover for another 5 weeks. I assume you're not asking for a refund? Tell them you will go to the Insurance Ombudsman if they try to charge you one ;)

Incidentally... What company is it?

If you do goto the ombudsman, and I hope you do, don't expect it settled quickly. There is a queue of cases almost a year long. Perhaps not surprisingly.

LD ,  the company was YES Insurance  - from one of the comparison sites.

Have now gone back to our local broker - although the comparison sites look cheaper - in my opinion you just get too much hassle.

Got full comp for a lot  less than  what Yes wanted for TPFT.

The last direct debit on the old policy is due next week but is only £20  - they want to charge us a £50 cancellation fee , we only wanted to cancel because they would not change the policy to the newer car.  only offer us a new policy at a high rate. >:( >:( >:(

Ombudsman  seems the likely route. but as said have got the corsa insured with our local guy, :) :) :) :)

Hmm... For £20 I don't know if I could be bothered to do anything... Keep an eye though, just in case they take the higher amount ;)

I've had the same issue as this in the past before, demanding canellation fee's  >:(

I wrote a polite letter to them telling them what the situation was etc etc and refused to pay the fee. I had a couple of letters demanding the fee for about a month, all ignored, then nothing more!

It's too costly for them to chase such a pitiful amount and they're only hope is that you'll pay up if they threaten keep asking you >:(

Not as if I had made a claim in the last 20 years, robbing bar stewards

If you stop paying, dont they just try and slap you with a late payment fee?
