Hi all,

I have decided it maybe time to part company with my Omega.
We are going to look at an mpv on Monday to become the new family car.

We have 2 cars at the mo, the Omega and a rather tired pug 306 diesel which is the car we use everyday, even as a family of 5 it serves us well.

With 3 growing kids I cant put off the inevitable any longer and we need an mpv, the Omega is just to thirsty to use everyday which basically means it never gets used. It is lucky if it does 100 miles in a month and has been like that for the last year.

What I would like to know is what sort of money should I ask for the Omega ? looking at others on ebay, autotrader etc they seem to vary from one extreme to the other, either stupid cheap or stupid expensive.

I have Y reg ELITE saloon with all the toys, satnav, rear blind , memory seat, bose, leather etc etc. Also has the top of the range PARROT hands free system in it.

It has recently had big service which included cambelt, water pump, rear pads, fluids plugs. All in set me back nearly £600. It has only done 83k and it going for it's MOT next week , which after that bloody great service I hope it pass with flying colours.

I would be gutted to get rid of it but I am more gutted walking past it every day and not using it.

Sounds like an excellent car.......but that is strong money for an Omega. Good luck....

Selling cars of any stripe, especially online, is a game of high psychological content.

If you post an ad on Autotrader, for instance, esp. for a common car, you'll be one of very many sellers trying to offload very similar cars. Some sellers, the more desperate ones perhaps, then realise that they are competing in a fierce marketplace and play 'price onedownmanshhip' ( i.e you wanted a grand, so asked for £995, but now see that a whole load of others are at the same price point, so you then ask for £955 or something, just to get you ahead of the crowd), in order to get their car shifted.

The buyer, on the other hand, takes a gander at your pics and description, and wonders why you want so comparatively little, and assumes that there's something iffy about it.

The moral of the story is - be realistic about value, but having decided what that value is, stick to it. There's even some mileage in inflating the price if you have a very good example of a car - there's always the guy that wants the best, and is prepared to pay for it.

The thing is with Migs you get alot of bang for your buck when you buy them. Other marques on the same year fetch more 'cos they don't have a VX badge which is silly really. I recently sold my 98 3.0 MV6....the Beastie to a forum member so cannot disclose the price. She's a 3.0 manual & i fitted recaro leather, Bose etc from the Elite, cambelt water pump, wishbones, MINT MV6 rims which are rare nowadays, nearly new tyres.....you get the picture. The car has history here as Hotel21 sold her to me so she's a good'n but you'll nver get your money back.

    Your car does seem to be a good straight well specced facelift Elite with a low ish mileage. I'm guessing it's auto & you don't mention leather? If i was looking i'd be thinking around the £1250 area depending on the bodywork. It helps if the car's taxed, even for a month as it makes it easier for the lucky new owner to drive her home.

Buyers at Autotrader are ready to spend a bit more, than ebayers who are mostly looking for a bargain. Sounds like a great buy for someone. You're going to polish it up and put a huge sign in the window, I hope - I've had some surprising luck that way.

To put this into some prospective i paid £1,000 for my 2001 3.2 elite with all the toys and with 89,000

At the mo there worth what you can get.In a moment of madness from swmbo took my 02 2.6 cdx with 80k and mint to a dealer to see on a p/x was offered £350 for it thank god i decided to keep it so thats just the state of the big cars at the mo,
