I sent off my logbook to DVLA back in early May to inform them of LPG conversion.

About 12 days ago, I called them, as I'd not received anything back, only to be told they'd lost it, and they'd get someone to call me the following week.

Still heard nought, so gave them another call, got the usual apologies, somebody would call me.

Next day, guess what drops through letter box? Yup, all my stuff returned with a letter saying I had to go to local DVLA office to get the V5 updated, as Swansea can't do it. It listed what I needed to take, and included an extra form.  Ironically, tax renewal form arrived same day.

So off I go, a 60 mile round trip  >:(. Get seen 30mins before they close, they start doing it, but we hit a brick wall when they ask for insurance doc.

"But that's not on the letter DVLA sent me?"
"I'm sorry, sir, thats a mistake. Can you go and get it"
"Its a 60m round trip!"
"Sorry, we need that"
"Can you check the MID database?"
"Nope"

Can tell the last time I bought tax over the counter ;D

Why didn't they say so in their letter to me? I took the MOT because they asked for that. I took the receipts they asked for. But no insurance, as they didn't ask.

was the tax renewal in the same envelope as the returned documents?

if it wasnt, that'll be why the accompanying letter with the returned documents didnt ask for insurance

Glad I had a pleasant experience at the local office... Didn't even need my insurance cert because I was just exchanging my tax disc :y :y

Mind you, I still haven't got my log book back :-X ::)

Bumped into a guy who moved house while waiting for his new V5 to arrive.

He put on mail redirection but it didn’t turn up for weeks.  Called DVLA and they explained that V5 envelopes have green chevrons on them that forbid Royal Mail from redirecting them, so it would have gone to his old address regardless.

OK, he says, can I notify you of my new address now?  No, the only way to notify a change of address is to fill in the relevant section on the V5.  Security, you know.  But I can’t fill in the V5 – I don’t have it.  We know, the voice says, we've got it, it has been returned to us marked “no longer at this address”.

(More of the same ad nauseam... )

if mail has chevrons on and a "do not redirect" instruction, they HAVE to be returned to the sender, not delivered as addressed

this should have been returned to DVLA as "addressee gone away"
