They're not the most flexible of organisations, although so far been decent to me..

As Kevin says, they seem to be a constant cause of consternation in the kit car world ...

Yep, Can't register it without taxing it. Can't tax it without an MOT. Can't MOT it without it being registered. Oh, we'd like to inspect the vehicle. Can't get someone out to inspect it. Can't drive it to us without tax, can't tax it without registering it, can't register it without an MOT..... >:(
Are we not allowed to drive to a pre aranged Mot inspection without tax? Which validates insurance. Provided it's pre aranged of course...?  :-?

Or do I recall, kit cars go through a far more rigerous road worthy test?  :-/

For kit cars the process is:
Build it
Take it for the IVA (Individual Vehicle Assessment) test at VOSA
Fail
Re-do some stuff
Take it for another IVA
Then take it to the DVLA with all the paperwork, documented evidence of self build, documented evidence of certified engine age from a DVLA registered engine builder
Fill out some more paperwork
Take it back to the DVLA to be inspected
Finally get issued with a V5
Tax it & buy registration plates

You can insure it on the chassis number before registration and insurance company confirmed that it's covered if the vehicle's roadworthy.

You can drive it to a pre-booked VOSA test required to tax it (SVA/IVA, MOT, VIC, etc) provided it is insured even if it's not registered, taxed, etc.

An inspection by the DVLA is not covered by this, according to the Police I spoke to, because, despite being required to tax and register the vehicle, it's the DVLA, not VOSA. (VOSA, of course, check the chassis numbers, etc. during SVA and provide a form with it all on, which you take straight to the DVLA, but the DVLA insist on seeing it all themselves, being the useless bunch of muppets that they are.)

MOT doesn't really help if the DVLA muppets want to see the car. I was told they could MOT check an unregstered car but it would be purely advisory and no use for taxing the car because if there's no registration number to enter on the certificate it can't be issued. >:(

It's a great example of a couple of bloated public sector organisations who are incapable of seeing beyond the pile of red tape they've created to justify their own existence. ::)

That, of course, wasn't the end of the story.

Because they are useless rather retards, I received a letter a couple of weeks back saying I needed to send all the proof of LPG back to Swansea before they could return my V5.

Apparently, its not enough that they have seen it once, and returned it. Nor is it enough that the local DVLA office have seen it and issued a tax disc.

Absolutely no point ringing them, due to a combined IQ of 6.  No wonder the civil service is so inefficient. The useless pricks running it, and those working there have simply forgotten who they work for, and what their purpose is. Instead, they like to generate work for their own benefit.  Morons. Every single one of them.

Anyways, a strongly worded, slightly sarcastic letter, along with all the proof of LPG (which is on an online database anyway) sent off to the useless morons, and today, 9 weeks later, a V5 pops in the letterbox.

9 rather weeks - and at no point were they waiting for info from me for more than a few hours.

My V5 fell through the door today too... About 7 weeks, I think, and probably only because I raised a complaint before the lakes ::) ::)

Never mind... All sorted now :y :y
