Black soot around door sills and rear bumper
« on: 25 July 2011, 21:36:50 »

Does anybody else get a fine black soot on the bottom plastic bit that runs under the doors and around sides (mainly) of rear bumper? My car is silver and it is beginning to p me off. Does it come from the exhaust or tyres?

Strangley they do not seem to gsther at the same rate. I washed the before driving 250+ miles and the sills/bumper were quite sooty but the wheels were still almost mint

I had similar when my camshaft seal was pissing oil.  I guess it was mixing with water on the road and getting deflected up when driving along.

Since the oil leak stopped I havent had it again.

Is the car a diesel?
Maybe the exhaust is holed? Diesels don't make the same noise as petrol engines when the exhaust is shot.

I think I remember someone saying there are two types of GM pad, all I know is the set that my VX dealer sold me weren't a patch on the original ones and I was forever cleaning the wheels after fitting them.
