vectra b rocker cover gasket
« on: 12 August 2011, 20:30:42 »

hi all

i also have a 2000 vectra b club and it is leaking oil from the rocker cover.

i have not changed a gasket before, can someone tell me if you have to mess with the timing to get the cover off?

thanks

Very easy, took me 1 hour on my Omega with the same engine.
You'll need a set of torx male keys . Unclip connection on cam sensor, undo top 10mm nut on timing case cover ( don't drop and lose the rubber seating washer ) to allow you to unclip it from the cam cover.
large and small breather hose off , breather/ fire trap off at rear. Plug cover off and unplug leads and push them to the rear of the engine. Unscrew the cam retaing studs and remove cover.
Replace gasket and stud O rings after removing any old sealing compound on mating faces , fit new gasket use a little sealing compound at front and rear rubbers and then carefully refit ensuring it doesn't come out of the channel as you ease it onto the head. Reverse above.
I fitted a cheap item off E bay but I was concerned that it may leak again so I ordered a genuine GM item and the difference was considerable . The GM one is much chunkier . The cheap one is sealed OK but I'll change it soon.

It will be a 1.6 or 1.8 on a base Vectra so 4 pot and dead easy (follow the 4 pot guide on here for a bit of guidance but be aware the engine is fitted 90 deg rotated!)

Do clean the breathers etc and throttle body whilst doing it.
