My Mum paid for a years servicing at Halfords for her pushbike.
She needed the brakes doing not long ago and they didn't do those right.
Personal I would not waste my money letting their Monkeys play with my car.

Why indeed. We post regularly on here, don't use the likes Halfrauds , Kwick Fitup, and all those big chains. They're idiots with blunt instruments as tools.

Don't do it. Far far better to pay someone on here if you dont want to DIY.

Their autocentres were Nationwide Garages (bought out a few years ago)

tbh I have had some work done at the one local to me and I cannot fault them.  Their MOTs are half price through a voucher on their website and the tester knows me quite well now :y

Which is why we need someone who knows the car, but obviously see your point re vat registered.

got the CDX back this morning all looks ok so far .
ask them to mot it while it was in there as it was due in Sept anyway . failed on a broken rear spring only . and i class them as kinda service items so am happy :y . don't know where he got the rad from but its got a 3 year warranty  :y
costs
radiator £25 (AA paid the rest )
rear springs x2 £25 (AA paid the rest )
mot £36.75 ( AA members discount )
had a bit a argument with AA over springs as they said they will only cover the broken one . but as i pointed out even there web site recommends fitting in pairs so they authorized the pair  :y (well if you don't ask you don't get )

cam belt due in a few mounts will get elite Pete to do it as he has a good rep on here and hes only 20 Min's away  :y
