Quite stiff on the suspension, My back moans after an hour or so in an A4/Passat/Octavia

I find VW's in general have very hard rides and appalling rock hard seats.  Had back ache after just 20 minute run in a VW Sharan from Covent Garden to train station

thanks guys, want to keep omega, but am very tempted to get this car,the omega is just being a pain in the back side and it's on thing after another through poor build and design problems :y :y :y

And you want to get a Passat to improve that? With their complex, fragile and expensive front suspension, and the need to remove the front of the car to do anything to the engine. Not to mention the utterly depressing interior.

And don't buy one with the stupid and unreliable electric handbrake. Actually, that applies to anything with an electric handbrake!
IIRC, only the A4 has longitudial engine, Passat and Octavia are transverse. So only the A4 is an utter PITA to do the cambelt.

The suspension setup on the front is universally shite across the platform though.

I know on the 2.8 Passat, the entire front end has to be removed for the cambelt to be got at, not sure about the 2.0 though  :-/

Sure the last (admittedly 1.9 diesel) Passat I looke dunder the bonnet was transverse  :-/.

Always thought it bizarre that the same platform had different engine setups.

In America i noticed a lot of W8 Passats, they must be fun to work on!  :o

They do them here too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-PASSAT-W8-4MOTION-TIPTRON-PRIVATE-PLATE-/160635001185?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2566979961#ht_1536wt_1139

Although very rare, and with 280 BHP from a 4.0 W8, not brilliantly powerful, but quicker than a lot of things out there, and best of all they look like any other Passat. They make a cracking noise though  :-*

I'd rather have a Superb than a Passat to be honest, they look better, and the interior on the top end models are pure luxury  :-*

The later ones are longitudinal which is why the handling is so shite as the weight is a long way forward with a transaxle setup so they understeer like a MkII Astra

Thumbs up was to agree with previous statement.

Not a massive problem, cambelt isnt a regular service item and have been quoted £320 to get it done by local specialist so its not a problem......
