thanks guys, want to keep omega, but am very tempted to get this car,the omega is just being a pain in the back side and it's on thing after another through poor build and design problems :y :y :y

And you want to get a Passat to improve that? With their complex, fragile and expensive front suspension, and the need to remove the front of the car to do anything to the engine. Not to mention the utterly depressing interior.

And don't buy one with the stupid and unreliable electric handbrake. Actually, that applies to anything with an electric handbrake!
IIRC, only the A4 has longitudial engine, Passat and Octavia are transverse. So only the A4 is an utter PITA to do the cambelt.

The suspension setup on the front is universally shite across the platform though.

I know on the 2.8 Passat, the entire front end has to be removed for the cambelt to be got at, not sure about the 2.0 though  :-/

1.8 20v can be changed without removing front end but its tight
