I had a Grand cherokee 2.5 turbo D before I got the Omega,mine was the older version(98) and was a bit crude on road but epic off it,I believe the one that is mentioned here has a mercedes engine from the old E class

Have you considered a Hyundai Terracan mate?

My father-in-law had one, and it was a really good bit of kit!  Loads of space, great engine, lots of toys, and pretty cheap in comparison...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HYUNDAI-TERRACAN-2-9-CRTD-TURBO-DIESEL-4X4-5-DR-ESTATE-/150646238829?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2313372e6d

I bought a little Hyundai Getz brand new for my wife. Had it 6 years and done 58k in it. Never missed a beat! Most reliable car I have ever owned!!

Just a thought...  :y

Yes I am sure!!  ::)

 I can only go by my experience though... That would be my Getz, my mum's Getz, my mother-in-law has had 2 Getz and 2 Santa Fe's, and my father-law's Terracan as previously mentioned.  I admit that they will never be the most stylish cars on the market, but none of the cars I've mentioned have ever broken down or cost silly amounts to fix. At the end of the day, that's what's important to some people.  :y

I had Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 CRD engine (it was a 56 plate, got brand new).  I have to say it was the best car I have ever had.  I never tired of driving it. It was smooth, powerful and comfortable and handled surprisingly well for its size.  It was quite thirsty though, although that might have had something to do with the way it liked to be driven!  Commuting, I would get about 19 - 20mpg and on a longer run I could get about 27mpg, up to 30mpg if I was really, really careful.

I had it for 3 years after which time I had to return it (it was on lease, and I had changed jobs) but I still miss it!

There not a bad off roader actualy (Have used one at the heritage centre down the track), quite capable in the tough stuff but on road there pretty pants and one of the worst 4x4's of its class in that respect.

I find them a bit noisey to with quite a bit of transmission noise.

The 2.7 engine is ok but, just beacsue it has Merc origins, dont let that fool you into it being great as it not actualy got that much go for its cc and it can get through fuel (but then its a big heavy motor) .

Well the deed is done, bought and paid for, take delivery on Friday afternoon......Now bring on the snow.... :D :D :D

To be honest I will be glad to be rid of this Mig, cost a lot of money and been nothing but trouble :( I have took quite a big financial hit, but we live and learn...... ::) ::)

Will be looking for a nice Omega Estate for swmbo soon though, to replace her aging estate, she did not want mine because of it's reliability problems, can't blame her really :)
