I do all the work on the family cars ,having not trusted work done by garages in the past ,
all the family drive vauxhalls with the exception of one ......
a 2002 picasso hdi
he insists on driving it
few weeks ago the clutch went
had a quick look to diagnose , he needed the picasso working again in a hurry ,so it was recovered to a local cluych place ,who quoted £350 ish done for next day
i took him to collect it ,
they said the gearbox casting needed replacing too due to the casting being cracked ,another 389 quid
I went outside and looked ,old casing with 16 years of dirt on it
went and asked , "not new ,reconditioned " they said , "so where is the old cracked one" i said ,
and when people recon gear boxes ,they clean them at least ,some paint them
we could not prove they did not fit a recon box or casting , so he had to pay the extra £389 to get the car back .
UPDATE
the crapasso now has bad clutch judder when the clutch is depressed
no judder when the clutch is fully pressed,no judder when engaged .just mid clutch action
It's going back to the clutch specialist first thing tomorrow
I won't be going with it due to another commitment
invoice states 18 months warranty on clutch and 12 months warranty on the "recon " gearbox
It will be interesting to see what they have to say
they replaced the clutch kit complete ,fork, slave, and gearbox ,
I did pull the covers and remove the aux belt to make sure the harmonic damper(well known crapasso issue) etc was not at fault.
the only part not invoiced was the flywheel , if it was good enough to fit a clutch kit to a month ago , I can't think they will try and say it needs skimming, but i suspect they will try and pass the blame to a non replaced part /try getting more money
wish I'd done the job myself now
UPDATE
Drove over to Lichfield today as i was told the Crapisso would not start last week to take it back to get the clutch judder fixed under warranty (was done 23/5/18) and it had a water leak by the passenger front wheel

NOT water , it was oil , of the Crapisso gearbox flavour
leaking out of the driver side drive shaft seal (running via the drip tray to pass side)

yep , that loose bolt is the last remaining bell housing to engine block bolt

explains the clutch judder and why the starter motor would not engage
because the block and gearbox have parted company at the bottom
phoned up the clutch specialist and said the bolts where missing
to which the gearbox specialist said " that is nothing to do with the work we did"

so how did they fit the 3 pc clutch kit ,new clutch fork, and "recon" gearbox then
answers on a postcard

then , after they admitted that it was something that perhaps they should look at
they
tried to insist on charging for recovery to their workshop
by now , smoke may have been venting from my ears
they sent a recovery truck to collect this evening hopefully
i suspect they will just bolt it back together and not bother about the damage to the input shaft, clutch, flywheel, starter etc
or the gear oil all over the block paving
plus the cost of the replacement hire car ,till i had chance to look
I said to the Crapisso owner not to take it back and claim a full refund but apparently you have to allow them time to sort out the **ck up of a job they made

i then reversed over a bucket of tools i left by my boot

fortunately no damage to the mega , just the 99p bucket
