Not my car but an Omega..

Tried (and failed) to change the rear wheel bearing on a friends DTi estate; did get his rear discs done and handbrake adjusted, but the bearing was beyond us :( see here for the cause of our failure.

Just completed, cylinder head off to replace the valve stem seals (some were rocking about on top of the valve guides like Eric Morecambes top hat). Did the cam belt and water pump, and cleaned the EGR valve with new gaskets and nuts throughout.

Had a problem when I came to starting, not with the car, that started fine, but with me.  I couldn't turn the key, a couple of times when I went to/tried I thought of something else to check to see if  everything was OK, when I knew full well it was.  :-[   :-[

Plugged the code reader into the Elite to see what the misfire was all about - P0301, cylinder 1 misfire stored as pending but not active (my left butt cheek Mr Motronic, you were flashing the CEL at the time!)

Fired it up and it's back to it's normal self again.. temperamental thing.

Is cyl 1 the front passenger side cylinder? Just checking to be sure .. that would make sense since that's the side covered in oil from the cam covers..

Drivers side.

The drivers side bank is further forward than the passenger side by the width of a conrod. Counting from the front of the crankshaft the front drivers side cylinder is therefore cylinder no1.

Interesting.. that side is the bone dry side (it had a new set of gaskets recently-ish). Perhaps it's water ingress (not surprising given all the rain we've had!) or an iffy coil pack.

When I get a minute it can all come apart for the gaskets anyway.

Been for a 160 odd mile run mainly on A/B roads, Wet and Dry and I can't believe I'm driving the same car..  :o

The Goodyear tyres have transformed the Elite's drive drastically, Have noticed though I'm driving faster now that i have confidence in it's handling now Seems to like glide along now :y

Need to sort out the rear tyres next. Will go for Goodyear's F1 again most likely.

Definitely a thumbs up from me for these tyres  :y (early days I know and will update if I have problems)

Yep she's filthy currently.  :-X

..... Also, Before I rest the trip computer thought I'd share my trip computer figures just over 1,000 miles.

Went for a drive up to Cumbria and collected a full Irmscher bodykit for my '99 F/L Elite, also collected all the MV6 titanium interior trims too as I don't like the fake wood on the Elites dash or door cards.... Iv also changed the centre armrest for 1 that works and locks, also collected with the Irmy bodykit was the matching twin exhaust too :) and a Lotus Carlton rear wing.....

Need to find a good bodyshop around the Wigan area to paint all the bodykit components to a good standard, I could do it but want a proper job doing so it looks right....

Can't wait to get it on once its painted :)

With help from chrisgixer, as he had a jack, and I don't, the oil was change on both cars. It was a bit "overdue". Slapped an air filter in TBE while the bonnet was up, and a bulb in the foglight when it was jacked.

Many thanks to chrisgixer for his help, and a pleasant afternoon car fettling :y

Twas the paper element type. Downside of changing oil in a Force 9 - you place containers taking into account of the wind, then the wind briefly changes direction. Twice.

A good day though, not just because I was really keen to remove the sludge and put some oil in, but nice to have a gentle tinker and spanner twirl, despite dodging showers, and the flipping wind...

Although simple, straightforward tasks, I felt a sense of satisfaction afterwards :y

Popped in some new HID bulbs into the superior Silver Bullet. Hopefully help take some of the guesswork out of night driving :)
