Put everything back together after picking up a new coil pack from the honourable member above, and then checked the header tank...

I cannot print here the words I said.

Is that an HBV failure?

Nope, that just empties your water.  Oil cooler has gone.

Hand brake on a 2.5V6 and took back again for an MoT, and put a new steering idler on my Dti, which I would just like to add has not fixed my fault, and that after having new wishbones and drop links 6 weeks ago. I think it's time for poly bush and new track rod end as well :-\

Yup, that.. sourcing a replacement now (well, Monday) and then it's:

Oil cooler
Cambelt
Thermostat & pipe
HBV
Aux belt idler
Wishbones

Weirdly I already had brand new oil cooler banjo bolts and grey goo in my box of bits, and I did the rocker cover gaskets last weekend.

Can anyone remind me what the other part at the back of the block that can leak coolant is? HBV and .. helter skelter pipe? I know there's a pinhole leak somewhere so might as well do it all while we're at it..

Decided I have to flush the coolant again ... changed coolant, HBV and thermostat (including housing) last night. Checked it this morning and my red antifreeze was muggy and blackish colour, also evidence of K-seal in there!!! Guess I didn't clean it out as well as I had thought when I changed the head gasket!

I hate K-seal but the problem is, even the AA will use it if they suspect HGF being the cause of breakdown. Who will know when it was put in and who did it??

We can pressurise the system once its in bits. See where the leak is coming from. :y

Aaron, it goes without saying to shop around for bits :y

Search ebay.com with part numbers as a number of dealerships in the States use the 'Bay to clear stock, and there are relative bargains to be had. Some things like transfer pipes are cheap enough over the counter at your nearest dealer though :y

Yeah, doesn't look like an awful job (aside from all the .. at the top of the engine getting the wiring out of the way).

Shame the parts are so expensive - assuming I needed to get all new banjo bolts and dowty washers for the cooler and coolant bridge it would come out at £238.16 (retail, not sure if trade club will get me any trade discount on anything yet)..

Oil cooler here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OIL-COOLER-V6-OMEGA-SINTRA-SIGNUM-93176626-/190843297148?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c6f259d7c#ht_0wt_0

You then need the four off metal seals for the oil cooler to oil cooler pipe joints and four dowty seals for the coolant bridge.

You have the grey sealent which is one less thing.

New oil filter (unless its already new) and get a couple of second hand banjo bolts just in case (although I am yet to break one although Tunnie seems to snap them all them time  ;D :y)

Once done flush the system well, run with soem degreaser for a bit and keep dropping the coolant, flushing and changing it.

;D ;D on the banjo bolts.. I do have two in my box, need to check if they are coolant bridge or oil cooler though (they have two different part numbers, but could be the same bolt in reality?).

I don't tend to snap stuff off all that often .. he says, famous last words and all that! :y

BTW I spotted that cooler on eBay but discounted it as the picture made it look like it was a plated copper item, and I thought all the new ones were stainless?

Cheers Mark.
