Belched some more brown water out of the header tank after a run, drained and refilled the system (as much as you can).

Just pretend I also posted this tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that... ;D

Me again..

Drove it to work this morning - faultless performance, stable temperature, and got 29.8mpg (on the GID) over a ~15 mile cross country drive which is astounding.

Probably because I spent most of it stuck behind a slow moving motorcycle (no, really!) ;D

It wasn't Tunnie was it?

Sounds like you've made real progress shifting the muck out of it :y

;D ;D ;D No, although I do see a couple of "sit up 'n beg" BMWs on my regular commute, this fella was on a 2009 Harley of some description - older version of one of these, I think: http://www.harley-davidson.com/content/h-d/en_GB/home/motorcycles/2014-motorcycles/sportster/super-low-1200t.html (based on the general look and the big plastic 'screen')

But yep, though I don't think I can claim the credit - I have a feeling it's more to do with you coming over and persuading me to just keep flushing it..

Incidentally I'm now very impressed you didn't drop the header cap during the Vesuvius Maneuver; first time I did it the cap disappeared down by the exhaust and popped out under the CAT  :-[ ;D

Drove it ~120 miles today from here to Tunbridge Wells to collect this:

Car was faultless, even when stuck in stop go traffic on the M25 on the way back, and returned just over 30mpg.. hurrah!

Incidentally the welder came with a box of bits: http://i57.tinypic.com/2n71l6c.jpg

Includes what looks to me like two TIG torches and perhaps a spot welding attachment for an arc welder, if anyone can identify them?

I'd edit but the button isn't there; I'm told the "spot welder" is a carbon rod arc welder.

Do yourself a favour, and smash the regulator for the disposable cylinders and get yourself a proper one. You'll save a fortune in money and frustration, and manage some decent welding much quicker!

Collected and fitted the new exhaust, a job that I hate. Still, it's on now, and the only bit I haven't replaced this year is the driver's side cat.
While I was under there, I finally got around to fitting the new fuel filter I bought 18months ago; another annoyingly fiddly job.
And I reassembled the headlight levelling sensor that I must have  damaged when fitting the new shocks 6 weeks ago. Hopefully that will stop the warning I've been getting ever since.

Now it's time for a beer.

A tank of LPG. Only managed 150 miles from it.
