MID Range accurate, yer right!
« on: 17 July 2007, 11:10:52 »

Just had a call from a massively upset SWMBO, whos meant to be on her way to the docs with our baby boy. Range on the MID is saying 17 miles, but the car has just run dry of petrol and still saying 17 on the range. So shes stuck on the A5, duel carrrageway with our little lad in the back. I really need to sort anouther motor or Omega out before somthing else happens!

FUKIN CAR!  >:(

I don't go anywhere except to the garage if I have less than 30 miles left. Not helpful I know but better to keep topped up.
Next time you top up do a manual reset on the range, see if that helps.

I regard the MID as a guide only, although mine is reasonably good range-wise. Once the yellow light is on, and especially if it's flashing, you need to fill up ASAP whatever the MID says.

People assume anything on a digital display is gospel but it's only as accurate as the inputs to the system and the prediction of future MPG.

Everytime other time I put fuel in it I do a manual reset to try and make sure its giving a semi-accurate reading. Wasted exercise that was ::) ;D

This fault is pilot error.......you cant blame the car for no fuel.....christ it flashes the range, it lights the fuel light and then flashes that at you.....what more do you want! :y :y

I'm pretty sure that when the fuel light comes on there is still 10 litres in reserve. Enough warning I would say. I'm not getting at you Owen, I know your situation. But, for Christs sake, if your gonna send your missus and kid out on a dual carriageway, put some rather petrol in first :D

The manual states for range:

Range over 30 miles (50 km)
The range is calculated from the current
contents of the fuel tank and the average
consumption over the last 12 to 20 miles
(20 to 30 km) of the journey.
After filling up the vehicle, the range adjusts
itself automatically after a short time. It can
also be adjusted manually; see page 34.

Range below 30 mi les (50 km)
If the fuel in the tank will allow less than
30miles (50 km) of travel, the warning
"Range" appears in the display.

So, if your sat in traffic or doing lots of stop/starts, the range is unlikely to be accurate.

Well I told her to put fuel in it befrore she went anywhere, after all, the petrol station is less than a mile away from us on the other side of the A5, and she had to go past it. But being a woman she thought there was enough fuel according to the range to get her to the hospital and she would fuel up in Bletchley. When she got in the range said 36, then within a few miles was at 17, then ran dry. ::)
She recons she will swap it for a mountain bike with a child seat on the back! ;D ;D

My average MPG was on 26-27 as usual the other day. SWMBO borrows it to go to work (30 mile return trip, A road and dual carriageways all the way) and it's on 22 MPG when she gets back  :o

Do you think they drink it?

I hope so, cos I think there'll be a NIP in the post otherwise!
