Mechanical quiz - test your brains!
« on: 19 July 2007, 15:36:17 »

A case of beer when I next see you, for anyone who can answer the following questions ;D

TIS use allowed!

Z18xe engine

1) On the rear of the camcover there are two breather pipes. One (larger) one goes into the air inlet, directly above the butterfly. Then there is one smaller one. When this leaves the throttle body, where does this go?

2) Coming out of the drivers side wing, there is a little device with a 2-pin connector that goes into it, and what looks like a breather pipe coming out. possibly a fuel pressure setup, but unsure - where should this go

3) On the PASSENGER side of the throttle body, there is a vacc connection - where does this go to.

4) On the DRIVER side of the TB, there is a large breather looking size connection - what goes here

5) Rear of the TB, a small vacc connection, what goes here.

Answers on a postcard ;D

1) Don't know

2) Sounds like the charcoal canister purge valve. It will go to one of the post-throttle breathers. The canister collects nasty fumes from the fuel tank and once the engine is running the valve opens to control the purging of these fumes to the intake system.

3) Don't know

4) Don't know

5) Guess what? Don't know!

Well, as you can tell, I've never looked under the bonnet of a veccy but hopefully that's one question answered.

1) On the rear of the camcover there are two breather pipes. One (larger) one goes into the air inlet, directly above the butterfly. Then there is one smaller one. When this leaves the throttle body, where does this go?

It needs to go to a vac based connection i.e. the engine side of the throttle plate.

2) Coming out of the drivers side wing, there is a little device with a 2-pin connector that goes into it, and what looks like a breather pipe coming out. possibly a fuel pressure setup, but unsure - where should this go

Carbon cannister purge line, again it should go to the engine side of the throttle plate

3) On the PASSENGER side of the throttle body, there is a vacc connection - where does this go to.

4) On the DRIVER side of the TB, there is a large breather looking size connection - what goes here

5) Rear of the TB, a small vacc connection, what goes here.

3,5 will be occupied by 1 and 2 and 4 I dont know.......coolant connection?

A pic would help.

small vac pipe from throttle body, sounds like vac pipe going to evapourator and pressure switch for lpg.....if you can post a 'decent pic' i can go check the veccyC.....its a different layout lpg wise but the throttle body should be the same i assume.

It's no bother, now I have a car that runs on fresh air  ;D
