DIY: Clear Side Markers (Reflective)
« on: 07 May 2009, 19:15:53 »

Since you cant quite buy clear side markers I got some reflective tape, some seizors, a whole puncher and 5 minutes of my time.

The reflective tape was 1.29 at some truck stop...

Took a piece of paper and traced the light itself with a pencil, then cutout a piece that closely covers the marker.

THen traced that shape to the reflective tape and cut it out... in the process I kept measuring against the marker to make sure that it wont be undercut...

Here are some of the pictures...
(sorry I don't have before shots, but you know what yours look like)
 ;)
Took me total of 5 min:
Sill required: 1 (on scale from 1-10)

They are corner markers because the americans don't know where the corners of their cars are ;) ;D ;D They light with the side lights, white or amber on the front and red on the back :y

IDK, these are some stupid DOT regulations that we need to have...

Talk about smart... how about the fact that DOT does not requrie HID headlight washers or leveling systems...

On another note I think they light up with the parking lights and also when you turn on the side indicators they blink...

For some reason they think its safer to have side lights so that your front and rear can easily be identified for when you are crossing intersections... very stupid IMO but we got to have them...

ANd i Hated the yellow crap so I made mine white...

Also you guys have side turn signals on the fenders behind the front tire... we dont and it makes me sad...

I am gonna have so much fun with that one.... LOL

HID should be DOT approved?
DOT (Department Of Transportation) Has said that HID equiped vehicles are not required to have washers or leveling systems... but manufacturer can choose to equip their cars if so they choose...  :-?

Have you ever seen an HID equiped car with dirty headlights ... studies have shown that there is 40% increase in glare from those... so not having those as a regulation is stupid...

Also ever seen a car with a few more passengers then just the driver... HIDs are glaring right in your face...

I think I got the swine flu!...  :-/

Look up the first response to your first question...

Well its been said before and I am gonna say it again... DOT is not superior to the ECE standards... it may be better in one or two aspects but sucks across the board... no wonder many of us are upgrading to Euro lighting devices...
