and a whole load of fun.......

Just back from holidaying in the south of france, decided to take the Omega and drive down  

Plymouth - Dover - Calais - Draguignan and then back the following week.

2200 miles covered in total, the old girl was fantastic, the only issue being that the speedo would pack up from time to time (losing ABS/TC/Cruise and some of the trip computer) put it down to a faulty ABS sensor that will be replaced this week.
Cruised all the way down at 80 and back at a touch more (was flashed by a french speed camera on the way back, i was pulling about 150Kmh at the time)
Average MPG was 27.9 and we used 80 gallons, not bad when you think the car had 3 adults and a child and all the clothes my wife could think to pack as well as the entire kitchen and the temp over there was between 27 and 30 degrees

Already booked up for next year, will be taking the car but will be looking at taking the chunnel as far down as possible and even the car train to Montpellier

The Omega hasn't been used much since we got back from our holidays last week. I only went to Cornwall from Bury Lancs and my trip computer is showing about 1700 miles and I used nearly 78 gallons of motion lotion. I was dragging a 'van though!

I did France a couple of years ago (not pulling anything) and covered 1781 miles (it's quite sad that I remember this - but I do ) And consumed 72 gallons. Best holiday I've had for years - I love those French roads - the only roadworks I encountered where here in UK - nothing in France  So glad to have cruise control though - made for better sightseeing

I suspect your ABS ECU may be knackered

Interesting as your not the first person to have said that.

It hasn't happened since we got back into the UK, will have to see if it rears it head again.

There was some fantastic scenery, especially when we got to Monte Carlo, the roads are so different to what we have over here, in to whole time i saw one traffic jam and not a single road works

Plenty of traffic jams in Monaco though , and I'm guessing you bypassed Lyon

You're right though, lovely down there.  I thought St Tropez was missing something - 50,000 gallons of petrol and a match.  Further round towards Spain, Aigues Mortes (near Montpellier) and Carcassonne (nearer Spain) are worth visits if you're into history.  Places like La Grand Motte (again, not far from Montpellier) are real dives, and should be avoided.

We managed to avoid all the jams around Lyon....thankfully

My biggest concern was the temp and going up the alps, a couple of times the car was running at 95 degrees, that is the hottest i have ever seen her run, but for every climd there seems to be a downhill section......

next year i have told the wife she is not allowed to take so much, the boot was jammed full!!

Once i was on the other side i found i had to concentrate hard for the first 50 miles or so, from there it got a lot easier.

The roads are brilliant, the signage very clear, if you have a GPS system that does europe then i would strongly suggest using it, if not have a good mapreader with you, we did both, the map side of things i wrote out on an A4 piece of paper the road i wanted and the page on the map

Yeah thought about GPS but don't really go far enough afield in UK to probably warrant buying one . Anyway a good arguement with wife about her failing to read map properly is normally a traditional part of holiday experience for us!

In our glorious ignorance we are planning route via Reims/Dijon/Lyons/Montpellier to avoid Paris but I'll take any experience/advice willingly

Still recovering from costs of MOT/Service (including 1st cambelt change) from main stealer in advance of trip

Just make sure you take the correct road at the first intersection and the rest is plain sailing..
