Very Strange
« on: 22 July 2007, 16:59:56 »

Had my TS/ABS light on, my EML on with an 89, and if I even threatened to use the kick down the MID = autobox and goes into limp mode!
Read a post where someone had a hole in there brake servo pipe, so picked one up from the scrapy, £1, bargin ;D
Put it on today, and it was in better condition that the one that came off. Off I went to see if there was any change.

ABS/TS lights now out and able to turn TC of and on. Autobox is fully functional, kick down in sports mode with no probs, and the brakes are a lot sharper with more feeling. I was amazed!

Is it possible that all of this was\realy cured by somthing as small as the brake servo pipe??

Well, I reckon that it is due to un metered air entering the engine.  This would cause rough idling loss of power etc.  I am sure that others will correct me if this is wrong, but it was the cause of my Transit minibus cutting out (a vacuum pipe connected to the inlet manifold and then the air cleaner box had come off at the mainfold)

Interesting that it should affect the autobox and display the warning on the MID.

I cannot answer it, but when one ecu does to limp, the way the error handling routines go, it can affect linked systems (gearbox/abs), though never seen the symptoms you had caused by this.

As said in PM, feel free to pop it round, we'll clear all codes, and see what returns in a few weeks.

Well it certainly didn't put any lights on / store any codes when I had a hole in the servo pipe but that might be due to not having an egr / icv / etc on mine, it's a lot simpler on the 'drive by wire', type plenums.

Repairing the pipe did increase the MPG by 4 - 6 on average though.

Well i guess it was nice to have a car that worked ok for a day! ::)

Brakes are still sharper, but TC/ABS light back on, autobox playing up again. I guess its time to get me hands round me rounded nuts after all ;D

I suspect the ABS unit is causing these issues, but need to read codes to check.
