Been a slow day at work and i got to wondering why we all picked Omegas as our cars. I picked mine after driving an undercover plod MV6, i know i ended up with an elite which i think is the dog's bo**OCKs and as much as i like the MV6 for its driveability, i do love the elite for it's comfort, just wonderd why you all picked yours?

Cos it was [size=9]allegedly[/size] a replacement for the Senator/Carlton range. You'll find a lot of past & present Senator/Carlton owners here.

Well I picked my last 4 Omega's because they are comfortable, nice to drive, big (which is what I need) and I also like the shape and style of them to. Its a shame VX stopped producing them as they are such lovely cars. I am now on my fith Omega

was at the car auction as i frequently did at the time ( getting back into that weekly very very soon)

Looked at loads of stock fleet cars to resell....the MV6 came up and decided to take a chance on it at the stupid price i got it for. £3000 for a 2000 plated fsh car nearly 3 years ago

Won it - not knowing what an mv6 was - brought it home - and changed my mind about selling it

Seven grand for a 3 year old luxury saloon with 30,000 miles on the clock. 12 months NetworkQ warranty and a reputation for high mileage reliability.

What else could I have got for that value. Only trouble is I didn't know about the other variants e.g. Elite, MV6 etc at the time but I am thrilled to bits with the car and after finding OOF I wouldn't want anything else.

Allways fancied one after having the big old Scorpios, Rovers, Audi etc, liked the shape, also didnt know much about the trim levels, Very comfortable cars on my second Omega now but want an Elite next..

I still like the old Scorpio, never had a Saab but will in the future and maybe a Volvo T5 sort of thing but for the moment the Omega is a very nice car indeed..And a great bunch on the forum..

I still like the old Scorpio, never had a Saab but will in the future and maybe a Volvo T5 sort of thing but for the moment the Omega is a very nice car indeed..And a great bunch on the forum..

Had a saab, built like a brick outhouse and if i ever changed from the meega i would have another, as for the T5, well i drove several of them for the old bill, and as nice as they were and as rapid as they were they just ain't no fun being a FWD car, and yes before everyone points out the obvious, i know saabs are FWD but they are much more of a motor than a volvo will ever be. Anyway i love my meega and i aint changing it

I have to agree 100%, they are good and they are very quick, but at the end of the day they are a volvo and i dont want to be seen dead in one

Confession time for Dave C...

Right, I was born in 1965,  so by the age of 9 -10 I was brainwashed by the Sweeny on TV..  Consuls & Granny MKI's,  WOW!   Wanted one!  As I aged the Sweeny changed to MKII's,  yeah wanted one even more...  Passed my test at 17, had a spell with VW's, the 1600 Variant was a nice middle of the range car for a young lad...  joined the local IAM in Stoke, learned to drive with an ex-grade 1 police instructor..  taught me to drive quickly..  What were the police using at the time??  MKII Grannys,  fancied a MKI, went and got one, converted it from Auto to Manual gearbox.  Progressed to a MKII 2.8 kept it for 9 years,  the natural progression went to a MKIII 2.9, then, 24v Cossie Granada....  What a bast fastard!!!!    Decided to change for a newer car, I only like rear wheel drive as my preference, it's a control thing, Ford didn't have any decent progression from there, so!  What are the police indulging their trust in as a guide?  Yes you got it!  Omega's....

So there... Ask a question like that, you get me started on one!!!!


Moral of the story...  The police don't usually have sh1te to drive around in, they give a good indication of whats worth having..

I had an omega hire car for a long weekend on a trip to scotland about years ago, realy liked the car, so checked them out in various mags and Parkers recommended second hand CDX model, so I went and found one and bought it 83k on clock FSH, paid £7,200 that was back in 2001 for pre-facelift auto, that then got written off Nov 2003 (some idiot pulled out in front of me), then went and bought the replacement car, which is the one I have now again CDX but manual this time 83k on clock £6,200.00.

I migrated to an Omega after having various Carlton’s a Viceroy and Senators.
Frankly the Omega does not float my boat like the Senator did and I still have a great admiration for the Senator A. I suppose in the end its big and great value for money second hand due to its horrendous depreciation if a little too complicated for my liking. It’s a great pity Vauxhall have now effectively abandoned this segment of the market but GM in the US is presently in big trouble and facing an almost 1970’s British Leyland sized meltdown. If the present US fad for SUV’s and trucks bursts due to pressure from environmentalist they really will have nowhere else to go. Inevitably this crisis affects their worldwide subsidiaries. The Vauxhall Signum seems a perfect illustration of GM’s present malaise, whatever market it was intended for it has missed completely.  What were they thinking ?

For me it was a case of having had "a few" Senators before, I decided to try an Omega out...
Move ahead a few years and we have this place!  

In regards to the Saab v Volvo argument.
Both very good cars. My personal preference is the Saab (had a few of them too) but I know people who swear by the Volvos (and there is no question they are damn good cars).

However, an equivlant plated Saab, and especially a Volvo, will cost considerably more than an Omega!

purely value for money! saw a 51 plate CD for sale 2 years ago for £2150 and seriously spent too much time looking at it, decided i liked the look of it and was suspicious of the price until i checked online only to find out they really are bargains. I wanted a facelift because i like the modern looks.. not a fan of black plastics, and due to having an accident in my previous car, i was limited to the GLS for insurance

will be shopping for an elite at some point..

My mum had a C70 T5 although it was a fast mover its a guzzler and the turning circle is about as big as the M25
