V6 Engine change ..UPDATE
« on: 27 July 2007, 13:55:31 »

Ok, popped the engine out this morning. Started at 10 and stopped at 12:15.

Removed gearbox first and I still say the worst part is the sodding oil cooler pipes. Yuk. thyere is no easy way of doing this without getting a cupful of ATF up your sleeve.

Then assembled new engine crane. Having done that it is a different design to the last one and won't reach the engine until I removed the bumper and bumper iron.

Once that was done it was a 5 minute job to actually get the engine out. Now, for all you budding film goers, sorry. I just forgot all about videoing the engine out, so maybe nexct time.  :(

Meantime, just for a change it has started raining and IU have well and truly done my back in this time. So all stop and tools away. Quick tidy up after taking some useful bits off, like good DIS pack, good set of leads, crank sensor, complete loom, alternator and air con compressor, I left the rest on. Oh,, I did take the PAS pump. Other than that I left it. I am not taking heads off for nothing, nor the inlet manifold or exhaust manifolds for that matter. Just can't be arsed.

So, last hurdle is getting the replacement lump actually delivered and the old one away. Then it is the once over and in it goes, on with the torque convertor, flywheel etc then mate up the new AR35 box and do all the wirning loom back in and plumb it all together. then radiators, bumper etc etc.

A good few hours yet but should be running by Sunday I hope.

Now. I am going to post an oil cooler. Sodding post strike yesterday meant I couldn't. Anyway, it will be there tomorrow hopefully.

Finally the engine arrtived at 7pm. HBV definitely gone, wait for the pics on this one! Also passenger side cam cover gaskets.

So, before this one goes in I am doing BOTH manifold gaskets, HBV, Both rocker gaskets and full breathers plus the knackered DIS pack and new leads.

Crane has now been assembled and dismantled twice today. I am shattered and aching like hell.

I also got bored waiting for the engine, so I bought another project.

Plan is to do al the ancilliary stuff tomorrow after work, then  drop that bugger in either tomorrow night or Sunday. If it goes in tomorrow it will be driven on Sunday for the first time in 2 months.

Then, if I have time I will rob the exhaust of my new project (long story) and do the rocker gaskets on that. I still have both the cambelts and water pumps to do on these, but that is only an hour or so each really.

I then have the rocker gaskets to do on Mrs McB's CDX Estate. She is enjoying driving our Mondeo around sunny South Africa at the moment. Car has been there a year. Started on the button, aircon still charged up and drives 100%. I hate to say it but if that was an Omega I would nbow be trying to tell her how to fix this and that over the phone!

Next car is another Mondeo or a Volvo T5.
