Spares or repair?
« on: 11 April 2011, 17:44:50 »

My 2.6 CD with a rare manual gearbox is up for sale as I now have a new MV6.

The body is in truly excellent condition. With virtually no rust. The alloys are almost unmarked.

Details:
November 2001 on a 51 plate
MOT June 2011
Mileage 102,000

GOOD POINTS.....and there are many
She has had plenty of money spent on her.
1. Cam belt tensioners and water pump replaced 12,000 miles ago (bill to prove)
2. Complete exhaust replaced 7,000 miles ago. 15 months old, still under 2 year warranty. (bill to prove)
3. 4 x excellent tyres replaced 8,000 miles ago (bill to prove)
4. Battery replaced October 2008, still under 4 year warranty (bill to prove)
5. New rear brake pads replaced 3,000 miles ago. (Bill to prove)
6. New front discs and brake pads replaced 7,000 miles ago (bill to prove)
7. Oil and filter changed 2,500 miles ago (bill to prove)

BAD POINTS
1. Needs cam cover gaskets on both sides. 1,3,5 and 2,4,6
2. Needs a knew coil pack for 2,4,6 side. It is currently running with 2 x 1,3,5 coil packs. (a brand new genuine Bosch coil pack costs £60 from Ebay)

She runs beautifully as she is. I don't have the time to sort these problems out at present.

Not sure what she's worth as she is. Any ideas?

Pictures to follow

It also has a tow bar with double electrics. You can see it on the pictures but I have removed it.

I'd be asking around £800-£1000 on autotrader i'd say, so expect a little less through the forum

if its just rocker gaskets and coil pack, that'll cost under £200 to repair via forum members

maybe repair and sell faultless?

as a 'spares or repair' car it's probably not worth much. This is an estate, which could be considered as desirable as the 3 pedals in your car.  :-/

I'm tempted to have a crack at it myself Andy. A S/H  246 coil pack in good working order for £20.......and some cam cover gaskets for £17 (both sides)from Ebay.........yeah ...yeah I know they're crap but they should do the job for a couple of years or so.  :y

I'm not sure what tools I need for doing the cam cover gaskets.... :-/ :-/

if that tbh, you need to do the breathers aswell, or they will go again almost straight away.
due to the current selling climate i think you would struggle for a decent price due to the fact its a guzzler.
shame you cant sort it to keep.

No special/fancy tools reqired, just a selection of Torx sockets.  :y :y

But as Rob says, pattern gaskets don't last, and as expensive as Vauxhall's are, you only need do the job once. Instant gasket doesn't last either ....  ::) ::) and then it's a bast'd to remove.  :(
