bugger!
« on: 12 August 2007, 21:09:56 »

had a bump today  :-[

Not in the Elite, in my 2.2 CD.

M40 was shut Jc12-14 so had to go the country way to Birmingham, which took ages. Frustrating too being stuck behind 40mph lorry have the bloody way!

Got to Birmingham Airport, was rammed! Due to the incident at Glasgow airport you can no longer drive directly pass the terminal entrances.

So into the short stay, and it was packed.

Dropped my dad off, saw him off had a leak, then back to the car. Getting out was a nightmare, i was stationary for about 5-10 mins.

I was stuck in a line of traffic, to my right an Audi Q7 was trying to reverse, not getting anyware. After 10 mins or so he, got bored and decided to go straight ahead over the kerb and though a small gap.

Thats a good idea i thought! - Put it in reverse, looked behind, a Zafria was a fair way back (i could see his number plate, so enough for me to back up.

Start to reverse, BAM!!!

Did not see the bonnet of a 55 plate Passat behind me, he obviously pulled forward out of a parking space, and because his bonnet was below my boot, i did not see him!  :-[ :-[ :-[

I should have checked the passeger wing mirror, my fault i know!  :'( :'(

So i get out, look at the damage I made to the Passat (new shape) made a huge dent in the wing, and the bumper, bumper was also hanging off slightly, glass or plastic on the ground from his side light which i smashed.

Looked at mine, errrr? Looked closer, I have cracked the paint very slightly. It looks like there is a white hair on the bumper about an inch long, thats it!!

I thought Passats where meant to be tough!!! - Not as much as Omega's it seams.

So buggger! feeling a bit crap now, my first ever bump! (not bad i guess i am now 23 driving since 17)

I take it i will loose my no claims discount? - I have 5 years named no claims, and 1 years full no claims.

On the up side my excess is only £250

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Gutted to hear. Shame as damage to yours looks minimal.

Trouble is, he will have to claim, and that is going to hurt your premium, esp at your age  :'(

The real thing that has made me feel bad is earlier today when I was saying everyone needs an accident...  ...I didn't mean you had to do it immediately  :-[

Sorry To Hear about your Bump Tunnie

You Could Try what I did and See if the other person will accept cash, get them to get a quote.

It cost me About 400 pounds for knocking some guys rear sensors off but it saved me money in the long run i dont have protected and i did not want to lose my no claims and my excese was £250 any way

as TB said, renewal, but at your age with no protected no claims, it wont be too pleasing!

I crashed my corsa new years eve 05, had been driving 15 months and had a years no claims at 24, then lost it and had no no claims at 25, but being 25 went in my favour but still couldnt get a policy for less than a grand this year, might get lucky and get less than £700 in september when i have a year no claims!

Ouch, sorry to hear about that.

For the insurance difference, just pick a company at random
Do a quote with your clean history,
Then do the same again, with a your fault crash and no noclaims.,

When you come back around, and pick yourself off the floor, let us know the difference.

You won't loose all 5 years.  I had a slight bump in the missus car, her insurance (me as a named driver), we / she lost 2 years.
