As it is set to be a nice weekend and bank holiday I think there will be a lot of use making sure that the Omegas are looking there very best

Just whated to know what everyone uses as a polish

Have been told that Autogyn is good the to with the Black writing to the bottle? [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I bought some MacGuires clay at last weekend. I was recommeded it by a chap at work who said that it helps give a glass like finish to your paintwork. I was a bit sceptical at first, having tried various miracle products over the years, but I was very impressed.

I then polished using AutoGlym resin polish and I am chuffed to bits. I even went out last night and gave it a wipe over to keep the look up.

This is from a bloke who normally only cleans the car once a month if it's lucky and then it's often through the car wash.
 

PS Don't use a green pot scourer on your alloys. It scratches them as I found to my cost.

this is a subject that used to be very dear to my heart........

I used Carnauba wax, itis expensive but the results are brilliant.

Polish i avoid like the plague, it has all sorts of additives in it that don't always do the bodywork good, and there can be a lot of silicone in polish.

Wax is a more natural product, you may have to work a lot harder in order to get the finish but you will find that it will last longer and will not stain other parts of the bodywork like polish does.

Magiures Clay is the business, i use it once a year and the finish is like glass after, i amon for a marathon polish session this weekend, it will go something like this;

cold water hose down
Warm soapy water shampoo
cold water rinse
chamois
clay
wax
glass cleaner
tyres and blackwork

all the door, boot and bonnet shuts will be washed and chamoied down, the hinges given a quick shot of lube

The best cloths i have found for waxing on are old terrys nappies (they have been cleaned before using them   )for taking off the wax i use a lint free antistaic cloth and for the glass i use nappies for on and off
 

Then the inside will be vaxed, the leather fed and all the interior trim polished with a meguires interior cleaner

underbonnet i dont do so much of these days, i used to campaign a concourse mini and modified cavalier this used to be my terratory, nothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing the end result looking like it should be in a showroom

no, I'll be under the bonnet trying to sort out why the tractor is running so bad - not sure I'll be able to fix it, as I have no idea what I need to do

A couple of things here, Autoglym Super Resin Polish is the business and good value as well. Because it is a very mild polish it will not damage paintwork, rather, 'filling' mild scratches than polishing them out. IIRC it doesn't seem to contain silicone. There is also an 'Ultra Deep Shine' polish for darker coloured cars. This should be followed with Extra Gloss Protection sealant & THEN waxed with something like reasonably decent like Meguiars NXT or 'Gold Class'. Pricey and reasonably time consuming but worth it!

Jay, if you were to clay, polish, seal, THEN wax, you would find the waxing MUCH easier. Like decorating, it's ALL in the preparation. There's no point using expensive wax on a poor base.

So the process for a good simple clean up job is Polish, Seal & Wax. Clay is not necessarily needed but it makes products easier to apply and remove.

Here's another top tip - Go and buy the missus a 'bale' of brand new towels for her bathroom then pinch the old ones for cleaning your motor. That way she'll be well 'primed' and less narked that you're spending the whole day polishing your car rather than having 'quality' time together

Must admit I use old bath towels cut up in too squares they are the best I have found   And with no SWMBO    they can go in the washing machine to be washed ready for next time
