Hello all, from another newbie
« on: 27 October 2008, 16:34:29 »

I bought my Omega as a stop-gap heapo-cheapo comfortable car 43 months ago for £1100.  The logic was that if it lasted a year, I was quids in.  But I fell in love with it, and kept it on.

I still love it, and still use it.  OK, I have spent on some essential repairs and tyres but all-in-all this armchair on wheels has cost me about £1 per day to own.

I have an issue with the auto box (it's a 2.5 TD GLS) and I am convinced that the problem is simply low fluid level.

I am here to download advice and then show my local garage how to fix the problem as I do not have the kit to DIY it myself, and they say they do not know how.

I know that there is a drain/top up plug on the gearbox itself through reading this forum.  Does anyone have a photo of what it looks like from underneath the car?  PLEASE!?

Hello, welcome to the forum.

I second two sentiments already stated.

Update your profile with the type of car you have and your location. This will help you and others to help you diagnose or advise accordingly. Your location may even gain you offers of help from other local members. (You can update your profile by clicking on "User CP" above)

You could even put yourself on the OOF map (link is above in the bar above) PM me for the password.

DO NOT LET A GARAGE THAT DOESN'T KNOW NEAR YOUR CAR!

There is a member on here who is an extremely capable Omega specialist mechanic, so much so he has just set up in a fully insured and legitimate business and will visit you to do the work.

I have used him for my recent V6 cam-belt change and would personally recommend him.

Either PM him, his name on here is JamesV6CDX, or have a look at his very newly set up web site on http://www.omegamechanic.co.uk

Hmm, gearbox issues on a 2.5 TD - can you expand on what's actually happening?

If it's an original AR25 box, it's not uncommon for the thrust washer to disintegrate at mileages over 100k.... usually happens before 120k too!
