Just to clarify mine and others comments - originally the vauxhall spec WAS 8 years or 80,000 miles, but after several premature failures it was upgraded to 4 years of 40,000 miles.
Forum advise is 4 years or 40,000 miles or if in ANY doubt replace - costs,  if DIY is ~£150 for parts

My new 02 plate has 40,700 miles on it,and is 6 years old...and im sh*ting my pants....its booked in at my mates garage but he cant do it til the 3rd of Feb!

Mine is a 2.2 and getting it done at a garage with warranty etc, is costing less than £200 so my opinion is that it doesn't really matter what Vauxhall say just change the damm thing as regular as you have a spare 200 quid :y

The consequences of a snapped belt dont even come close to 200 smackers!!

I think mine has been done because the plastic case at the front has cable ties on it (not neatly done)and the bolts on the timing cover have marks on them which would indicate they have been removed, but i don't have any paperwork to back it up so its getting done again!! :y :y

at that price make sure he changed the belt and all tensioners.  if it is £100 ish on parts then I guess you are getting mates rates...

Timing belt kit from dealer, and a water pump while he is in there

£45 per hour labour,2 hours = £90 plus parts, which come in at a couple of quid over the ton!! ;) :y

« Reply #24 on: 24 January 2009, 16:41:14 »

hi, I just had the cam belt and tensioner and the water pump changed on my omega 2.6 2002 auto lpg. For some reason the moment i switch the car on to gas it starts shivering or rough idling and the engine management light comes on. This did not happen prior to me sending the car to the garage for the belt etc. the moment i switch it back to petrol it idles better but is still shivering slightly. the moment i drive it its perfect. It only shivers or idles slightly rough when in neutral or in park mode. According to the engine code it says misfire cylinder 1. My mechanic reckons since the car runs on lpg the plugs are probably on their way out and i need a new set of plugs. is that true or iam i looking at some other expenditure
Any help would be appreciated thanks!
