buying Advice -
« on: 02 June 2009, 19:10:57 »

Hello,
been looking to buy an omega but not sure of a few things - the V6 appears to be the better engine is this correct? Are the mpg figures quoted correct ie 25 for the 2.5 and 26 for the 2.0?
What sort of things should I look for defects wise other than the obvious when buying any car.
All advice greatly appreciated.

Hello Moonfish and a very warm welcome to you!

Yes the V6 is the best engine, but the average "going around town" figures for the 2.5 are more like 19mpg, with motorway runs seeing around 32/4, depending on how you drive of course! :D :D ;) ;)

Combined? well I am seeing 21 mpg on mine, an auto, at the moment. ;) ;)

Thanks for that, is the 2.0L much different ? I'm off to see two tomorrow, 1 2.0L and a 2.5.

The level of trim will be greatly different between the 2.0 and the 2.5 as the latter are usually a minimum of CD's, if not CDX's or the best, Elite's, which come with all the toys!

2.0 are considered under powered for the Omega body for people who like some umph!! :D :D :D :D ;)

Ahh! thanks, the 2.5 is a CDX and looked much better, have a preference for V6's any way so may well not bother with the 2.0L.
Any advice on faults to look out for?

Hello and welcome -- check when cambelt was last done --- hopefully much less than 40k or 4 years ago. That's a "must know" bit of info.   :y

Also look for oil in the plug wells as this will indicate another common Omega fault; leaking cam cover gaskets, due probably to blocked oil breather system ::) ::).  All easily fixed though. :y
