If it's not been said already, then fair play to the lad for taking the time to set up and configure his forum. Regardless of the fact it might not have any members yet - It's a far better thing to be doing than smoking illegal substances in the local park, which most of the youths around here seem to enjoy doing.
On the subject of games, I must admit it's not something I've ever been into, especially not the games that require hours of attention. I personally like flight sims.. where I can make the aircraft crash and burn when I'm bored of it
I agree, though he has backed himself in to a corner by using a free service subhosted on a free host. The most important part - the URL - is tied to that, and if the community outgrows the current setup, or if the free host causes any issues, you're knackered.
Last game I invested time in was the original DOOM/DOOM II games, esp multiplayer (over modems in those days) until the milkman used to deliver (5am ish). Stopped when I started having funny dreams 
I have to agree with the free hosting but it does offer you a domain manager so you can put a domain you have bought on there which i personally think is a good idea.
