I have PM'd an admin, so we'll see if my old account gets reinstated - although I have no idea why I would become an ex-member automatically!
Hey ho.
On Saturday, had a road trip that began in Scarborough on Friday night, when my mate Matt met me at Pickering, to play a small gig in our band. We left there to stay at my house in York that night and the following morning, around 10 o'clock, we set off to Norfolk via the A64, A1, A14, A11 in theory.
Matt was going there to drop his very nice Senator A at a guy's in Thetford for winter storage, me to pick up my MV6 from Norwich. Complete coincidence he was gong, as I was about to book a train ticket when he told me he was off to Thetford the same day!
Stopped off at the "Tin Hut" (OK Diner on the A1 this side of Newark) for more brekkie. nothing of note to report until we tried getting on to the A14.
Two cars were coming up the slip road the wrong way!!!
few cars behind us was Mr. Policeman Badger, who invited them to turn round, but he didn't hang around too long as he had his blues and twos on, so in seconds, he was off, on to the A14. We, meanwhile, had come to a stop. Turned out to be a bad accident on the A14.
A little while later - half an hour or so - the Senator decided to let off a little steam. Engine off and restart ebvery time the queue moved a couple of yards. Soon, the battery started to grumble at this!
Another half an hour or so, we turned off to Cambridge, drove by the Technical Park (or somesuch) hoping to return to the A14 a little further up, but it was still held up.
Saw a sign for Ely, A10 and went for it.
This meant going cross-country to Thetford on roads slightly wider than a 1985 Senator A, but yet more lumps and bumps than a whore's mattress. Yee-haww sprang to mind!!!
Got to Thetford about 3.30, where we partook coffee, a good lokk at a mint (well, very nearly almost but for a couple of "slight" issues!) Manta B, an Opel GT, anopthe Manta B and another Senator A.
The guy there (a certain Andy C) then gave us a lift to Thetford rail station in his recently acquired Nova. It's a minter 4 door, with under 50k on the colck (IIRC) - timewarp moment!
Hung about on the platform for half an hour, train duly came and took us to Norwich, where we were met by Martyn (the guy selling my MV6 to me) in the MV6.
As he'd sent a shedload of pics and descibed the car, Ididn't feel the need to look it over as I knew it was exactly as described - which, of course, it was.
Fresh brake discs and pads all round, with cambelt and gubbins done too. Oh, and a full service. Done that morning by a Vauxhall Techie fella!
Soo off to Martyn's, sign the paperwork, climb into the Omega and set off home, by way of the A47, A17 (horrible road, but not to bad at 7.30 ish pm), then A1. Stopped off at the Tin Hut again, onto the M18, over the Yorkshire Wolds to Scarborough then home to York along the A64. home around midnight.
Good day, good laffs and did I enjoy the MV6 on a mixture of roads? You bet! 250 miles, £50 in petrol, but well worth it to explore the handling, comfort and I have to say, it is a much better driver's car than my wife's Elite.
A pic by Martyn, the previus owner, and just to say mate - it's a credit to ya!
