"Hello" and Welcome
Tech questions are best put in "Omega General Help" as more of "them that know" read there than here ..
Regarding cambelts ...... the service interval was changed by Vauxhall to 40,000 or 4 years due to a large number of failures. When the failure occurs the pistons and valves meet with devastating consequences, so if at all unsure of the age, in both years aor mileage then a change is due .. its far cheaper than rebuilding the top end or worse.
The belts themselves rarely fail .. what happens is the tensioner bearings collapse, all tension goes from the belt, and the pistons/valves have a conversation ... for a VERY short period of time !!
So the full "kit" is changed... not just the belt. Some folks say that as the front is dismantled it is worth changing the waterpump every other cambelt change, its only a few pounds and saves further trouble.
The water pump is driven by a seperate belt, but IF it fails it can take out the cambelt at the same time ..
Stick your car details and location in your profile ... one of the "mobile mechanics" - and we have a few - might live near you
