Hi Guys,

After being hit in the rear of my Veccy, I had a garage inspect it to make sure all was well, before selling it. Unfortunately, there may be more damage than meets the eye.

Therefore I am going down the insurance route, and claiming against the fool that ran into me.
 
Directline are taking the car to a local VX dealership hopefully later today. My local garage recons the damage is as follows:

* Rear bumper needs replacing
* Dent in rear tailgate, making it difficult to open
* Small amount of paint split in the tailgate
* Although bumper visually looks OK, behind the bumper, the metal part of the body (chassis?) looks like it's been pushed slightly out of shape, further towards the LPG tank.

What are the chances they'll write it off? Or maybe fix it?

Shame really... the Veccy reached over £1500 on ebay so far, I'm going to have to withdraw the auction now  

I've also just put it through a full MOT.

Hope they don't make me wait too long for a decision, I was banking on this ebay money pretty quick to pay the bank back for my new Omgea

What a bugger - BTW is your neck OK? Mine got a bit sore in a crash quite a few years ago.

Also claim for this problem as you didn't want it off the road.

Bad luck James - its not uncommon to see slight bumps end up with lots of more serious but invisible damage.. main thing is the metal may be bent but the flesh is intact

Yeah, make sure you claim for that bad neck of yours - thats standard!

break it, if they do write it off (which is so easy) you can buy back the scrap at 10% of the market value, then you could strip it.

Only claim for it if it is genuine - but whiplash does happen one or two days later if it is

If there is a crease in the floorpan, then they will write it off as an uneconomical repair I expect.

Lets hope if it does end up a write off, that the Insurance company settle with you fast  so that you can pay the bank back, some Insurane company seem to take forever before clearing the funds through to you.

1500 from the auction with E-Bay is a lot of Money, it just goes to show how the lpg run cars are loved.

Hope that the Insurance give you that much then too :-/ :-/

There may be significant damage.

We had a 2yr old Rover 400 (that she had a s a lease through work) that got smacked up the chuff by a Sierra.  They should have written it off, as although little visible damage, after 4 repair attempts and rejigging, they never could get it quite straight again.  

That was about 2yr old, about 40k, and at the time worth about £10k.  The insurance company told us after about the 2nd repair, it should have been a write off.

So a smack on a 6yr old 220k car will likely be written off.

The bars**rd is lying through his teeth to me. He is saying that he has admitted liability to me, however his insurance (same company as mine) are saying they've not heard from him and canot contact him

They are now saying that they will have to write to him - guess it will take months.

as you said on the first post just after the accident happened, that you have all his details.

Get him to call the company asap, as only he can now speed things up, he must think that you were born yestarday to think that he can get away with not telling the company he“s Liability.
It“s no good expecting a fast line of action here if the culprit does“nt own up.
Lets hope it does“nt get nasty and he says it was“nt his fault, as no police were there it could turn out to be a problem, Your Problem.
You MUST get him to accept Liability to the Insurance Company.

He is promising me he HAS accepted liability. Unfortunately though, the insurance say they haven't spoken to him at all!!

As both parties are insured by the same company, I'm afraid they MUST hold both parties interests equally. An insurance company tells you you must never admit liability. This could be a strange one unless he actually pushes the fact that he was responsible.
