Bleeding air from coolant system? HELP

ok im nearly done.. just gotta bolt up the plenum and attach the various connectors i had to remove and some other minor things. when i was doign the plug leads i had to remove a pipe. this happened to be a coolant pipe and the upshot is now i have an empty coolant tank.

after shes back together ill get some coolant but how do you go about bleeding all the air out? just loosten the filler car when its running or what?

The system is fairly self bleeding anyway.

To help it, I remove the small pipe from rad top to coolant bottle at rad end. Top up coolant bottle until coolant comes out of this hole. Stick thumb over hole, count to 60, then move thumb. When coolant starts coming out again, put hose back on and secure. top coolant up to level. Squeeze hose on right that goes from rad top to thermostat, top coolant back up. Keep eye on level for few days (may have air in heater matrix as well).

yee ha!

i can change oil, remove heads, do timing belts and chains, etc.. but im a coolant bleeding novice lol  :D

As I say, the system is fairly self bleeding anyway, but no harm giving it a helping hand ;)

Inded - when I replaced the coolant on mine, after refilling I only needed to top it up once and it stayed on the line since.

I normally just leave the header filler cap off and run the engine to temp, turn the heating up full and keep topping up the header tank when required. Normally do this for about 15-20 minutes until i know the stat has opened. I then leave to cool for several hours and recheck when cold
