Hi Guys,

New to this site but looking for some local knowledge. The 80k service is due on my 2.5 V6. I know it's a big job and means new timing belt, tensioners and the like but what I don't know is where to have it done. When I had my last meega, I took it to a Vx main dealer in Edinburgh. Problem was, they recorded each service by putting another ding in your door. Now looking for someone I can trust to do this job properly.

I travel all over central belt and am in Glasgow and Edinburgh almost every day so location doesn't matter, I just want a good job done.

Any recommendations?

Three quid will buy you the cam belt change DVD, then you could do it yourself.  

Failing that you could try Autovaux in East Kilbride.

They are Independent Vx Specialists, all trained by Vx. I've even used them myself.

Regards doing the job myself... I think I'll try a few more basic jobs before I attempt that one!

Back to the drawing board... Got no reply when I called them this afternoon but was in the area so popped round to see them. They were shut. Do they usually shut on Friday afternoons or is this in preparation for the holiday weekend?

Anyway, might consider doing it myself now. How do I get hold of the DVD?

Must be the holiday weekend.  

If you PM RobinHood he'll sort you out with the DVD. It's only 3 quid, a bargain in my opinion.

Click members on the top menu, scroll through till you see RobinHood, click his name, click PM, and he'll let you know the address to PayPal the money. Got mines really quick.

dont do the cambelt change yourself unless you have a locking kit and know how it is done!

or you will be scanning about for a new V6 engine! everything else you should be able to do on your own if you have some mechanical knowlege......

NO!  i know this from previous experience!!!   it just isnt really possable unless
a) you have the locking kit and
b) you know exactly what your doing!

trust me, find somebody who knows their stuff and give them a back hander......

And, if you watched the DVD, you would know you need a locking kit, that was my point.  

Agreed, if you're not too handy with the tools, you should let someone else do it.

yes yes yes, yes! i have a mate in liverpool who does it for me.

i help him out, he helps me sort of thing.....

even although i know what im doing im still not 100% confident!

Thanks for the info guys. I'll get the DVD and decide from there. I've done timing gear on straights before but not on a V.

I'll let you know how it goes - look out for the "HELP!" message next week
