omega outside temp sender location
« on: 14 November 2006, 10:24:30 »

hi ive looked all over this forum and cannot find where the sender unit is located for the outside temp display in the car 1995 16v 2.0 gls estate just bought this car and after reading posts in forum checked all breathers, all were blocked, maf sensor was broken, egr valve was bust, idle speed stepper motor dirty. thanks to the paper clip test saved me major headache, i may have to remove head yet to do valve guides as when sat at junction engine on idle then set off blue smoke seems to come out of exhaust. i have worked on vectras before(snapped cam belt at 70mph 14 valves bent) but omegas seem to be easier due to position of engine but for now any help on location of sensor and do vauxhall do a 7 seat conversion kit for boot or any after market ones available?

Thre are aftermarket 7 seat conversions available, sometimes appear on ebay. Vaux didn't do one though.

Sensor is clipped to the lower edge of the bumper on the passenger side just behind where the fog light is/would be.

You got Climate Control?

Mine ('98 Elite) had a similar problem and I never got round to fixing it properly.  The Control Panel went dead, and that caused the temperature to be incorrect on the Info Display.  I fixed it by a well placed blow to the climate control panel - not a recommended fix (but it's not broken since).  I guess that there's a connection behind the control panel somewhere for the outside temperature sensor.

I actually had a pucker 7 seat conversion kit fitted to my estate when I bought the car, but I can't remember the name. I sold it to one of our forum members Big Rod several months ago so he would be able to tell you if you send him a PM. I did have the original invoice (part of the service history) for when the previous owner had it fitted. I'll see if I can find it and let you know if there's any details on it regarding cost and make.

Had a similar problem onmn my last car. The connector on the sensor itself was corroded and therefore giving poor electrical connection. Did manage to clean it up a bit and that improved things but what it really needed was a new sensor and plug.  Couldn't be bothered so sold the car instead  ;D
