very light wheel knock
« on: 12 November 2006, 21:35:10 »

Have got a new problem today,   Was driving from the airport yesterday when i could feel a sort of light knocking through the front drivers wheel, It seems that the faster i went the faster the knocking was,  And i i slowed down so did the noise.

Any ideas  :o

P.s .... Its the 2.0

You cant check the drop links when fitted to the car.....which are the favourite.....as they are always under some compression/tension.

Would the drop links knock faster/slower with the difference in speed??

Someone suggested uncoupling the relavent droplink whichever side is noisiest to confirm if it is these causing the problem.

Was the road quite uneven/ bumpy, if so continuous knocking like that would suggest droplinks , as MarkDTM says not easy to check when on the car as they are under tension, quite cheap to buy and easy to fit so may be worth changing them anyway.

Changed the front strut bearings today,  I was convinced it was them, But as i drove back up the motorway it was back again,   The faster i drive the faster the cluncking ,  Very light but its definetly there

Have you checked the tread and sidewalls for any foreign objects or bulges? especially on the inside sidewalls?

Hi,
Raise the car and rotate the wheels. Could be from the suspension but also from the brakes. Also check the rubbers in the front suspension arm assembly.
