cheap de-humidifer for damp omegas

hi all, since having my car i have been having w/screen misting problems so have been trying varius methods. today i bought a mini de-humidifier from qd stores (£1) which so far has helped a bit. i hope they might help someone else, tone

yep thats it -about the size of a moped battery i was getting quite worried about the misting vx mechanic tells me to change the pollen filter in case its wet aswell. tone

Thought you'd already changed pollen filter?

Also, if you haven't already, check scuttle drain clear!

hi, ive already checked in the well beneath the pollen filter and found some mush but not a lot of water, at the base it seems to be a bung (grommet) is there another drainaway, i coldnt see anything? :-/

That is drain, if you pour a cup of water down there, it should completely drain quickly (ie, seconds)

lordy! its a non holled grommet down there sealing the bottom hole ! ive just gone down to pop it out slightly, water runs out of there now! why would it be bunged up? :o

odd, you're second person who's said that today....

If it was blocked, there is good chance pollen filter very damp...

Pollen filters cheapest in Halfords - only they call them Cabin filters.  Won't have them in stock but I ordered one on Saturday & store called today at 10.30 to tell me it's arrived.  Cost £13.11 retail or £9.19 trade - about £18 in Vx and they won't have one in stock either.  :-/

I'd be very surprised if Vx dealer didn't stock them.

Retail prices, PreFacelift £11.30, Facelift £14.20 (ex VAT), trade club prices available...

hi just bought a genuine pollen filter from e-bay £8.50 inc postage ! i went into halfords today and, yes just as you say £13 odd, but none available in store.
the motors in for the cambelt kit tomorrow, opted to not get the crank sensor and thermostat done by them (vx) as they wanted £818 total.  just getting cambelt kit and water pump with tech 2 diag for £436 i will try to do the other stuff myself. tone.

is it really that damp in there? - my old Fraud Mundano had a leak and the footwell used to get soaking wet, and i mean soaking!!!

To dry it off i put one of them fan heaters in the car, on an extension cord from the house, power lead went in though sunroof. (just popped up not all the way open)

Left that in there for a while, seamed to do the job. Was dry for weeks, until it rained again!!


I have noticed however if i leave my Climate set to 'ECO' it steams up really quickly all around!

Yours spends so much time sat around doing nothing for weeks on end, it will get damp inside...

i cant see, or feel any damp inside the car so i reckon it is the pollen filter that is damp. now that i have de-bunged the pollen housing well and put a dehumidifier in the car i should see a great improvement. ::)

Don't be... my Vx dealer doesn't stock then, only the non-carbon ones, and he seemed quite surprised when I told him that post-2000 Omegas need the carbon type... and when I changed mine I realised that the previous dealer (not the same one) had installed a non-carbon filter, apparently he didn't hear about the carbon type either...
