Got a couple of jobs done today...
« on: 03 December 2006, 21:29:53 »

Well,I finally got outta bed this morning with the enthusiasm to sort out a couple of jobs i'd been putting off on The Tractor  ;D

Started around 10am...set about replacing both the bottom arms in a desperate attempt to stop it eating the N/S/F mudflap on left hand bends!!

To be fair the job was a doddle..only ball ache bit was having to split the hub from the leg to re-locate the bottom balljoints the bushes on the old ones were so worn that I levered them down and there was enough give in them to come out.
Could I hell as like get the new arms down far enough to get them back in  >:(

This was about the time that I noticed that EVERYTHING geometry wise is adjustable on elongated holes...
So I put everything back as close as I could (nuts and bolts back in outline where they were) and all seems ok,drives ok but its STILL eating the mudflap on cormers  ::)
Now looking at it side on I reckon theres a bit more setback on the N/S wheel than there is on the O/S and as this is adjustable on the rear bottom arm bolt I reckon this may be the problem..SO...

1st question is...
I remember reading about someone having their car set up by someone who uses the boards,I want to get the geometry checked and set up by someone who knows the cars, rather than some spotty 17 yr old down Kwik Fit trying to tell me it can't be done. (annoying thing is that if I were still in the trade i'd do it myself and i'd know it was right)

SO WHO IS IT???? Anyone remember?? and if so have they any contact details please as I want to get it done before it eats my tyres and mudflaps!!!

And the other job that I thought I'd have a go at was checking the Intercooler fan....yep,you've guess it,the 20A fuse under the bonnet was blown so out it came...

After removing the half a dead bird and a trees worth of leaves from the intercooler we got to the fan,I parted it from the 'cooler to find it seized quite badly  :'(

So after making a loom to conect it directly to the battery we got started....after much persuation with a can of Wurth electrical contact cleaner and WD40 it freed off.
I left it running for a bit, working it forwards and backwards when disaster struck.....

I picked it up as it was running to spray a bit more WD40 in when I slipped and the now nice and free fan decided it was hungry....so it promptly took a bite and the top off my thumb  :o :o :'( :'(

It looked like a scene from 'Hostel'  ;D blood everywhere!! but at least my fan works now!! Godamn thing's still throbbing, feels like I hit it with a hammer  :o

So anyway,a plaster and new latex glove later I refitted the 'cooler/fan assembly and replaced the fuse.

2nd question is...
When does the fan switch on coz i've been out in it this afternoon and haven't heard it once, was thinking about putting it on a manual switch but couldn't be arsed what with bits of my thumb all over the garage floor ;D

Thanx in advance..its been one of those days!!!

Just the headlights to sort now... ;)

Cheers

Yup, Wheels-InMotion. He's a member here, but has his own website as wheel which is a mine of useful, if somewhat complex info...
