Problem with heating
« on: 03 November 2006, 11:14:38 »

Had all new air con parts last week and now for some reason hot is not as hot as it should be?

Also after being really pleased that my car was running at around 80 degrees, it doesn't even get of the start line over my 10 mile journey to work. Should I be worried or is the cold outside stopping it getting too hot over such a short journey?

How do I rectify that then?

Having searched this site it appears the Thermostat is the most likely problem. I had better order a new one then. Where is the best place to buy one? AutoVaux?

Are the hoses getting hot / is the heater working?

Could be a wire off the temp gauge sensor

I'll vote stat stuck open as well  ;)

But you can always tell if it is the stat......apart from taking ages to get warm.....when it does get upto somewhere near normal temp.....take it for a blat down a road 60-70mph . If the temp drops well down ie 70 or less then its a good bet the stat is stuck open

That's even lower than mine sits, I was thinking along the line of the thermostat being the problem too. you can get a genuine one from Vauxhall or should be able to get a pattern one from Halfords or any decent motor factor, I would have thought.

Cheers Jim

mine is pretty much like this too - running the aircon pulls the temp down even lower as well. but in traffic or stationary, temp rises quick and fans cut in ok. wasnt there a suggestion before that the gauges arent that accurate to begin with?

Those pics show temp too low esp for a V6....temp shud be about 90.....even on the motorway.....mines a 2.2 and drops to 85 on the motorway....but its been discussed before that 2.2's run a bit cooler.

Its sounds like a few off you have duff stats  :(

Its not uncommon for them to fail.....i have 4 cars and changed the stats on all of them only exception being my Omega....but thats only done 75k miles
