did you remove the icv also?  i removed my for a clean and found that the sealing rubber was a little bent up (although you sound as you have another air leak elsewhere).
 when you clean the icv- spray the carb cleaner in the side hole while the end hole points down. also if you bung the end hole up with your little finger you may be able to feel and twist the barrel round to reveal the whole slider in the other side hole (cos usually ya cant clean it all in view)
hope this helps out- i had the same problem last week and now it sits at 575 rpm dead on!  tone.

 :)Thanks to everyone that has given input on my idling problem, it now seems to be sorted. After stripping it all apart again this morning and taking extra care when putting it all back together, cleaning everything again with even more care. including all electrics & pipes.
My not so little beauty is purring like never before. Thanks again you guys are ace!
