Think my Omega is Written Off?
« on: 20 December 2006, 19:57:21 »

Hi all, just when I thought things could not get any worse (leaving to drive to Birmingham at 5:30am) I got the evil phonecall....

A milkfloat had smacked into the back of my car...  :(

I think it will be written off... can someone please take a look at the pics and let me know approx how much to fix please? Boot is straight, bumper is only scuffed a tiny bit and boot light is fine...

I'm totally gutted and want to buy the car of the insurance company....  :'(

Unlucky mate.  :(
When someone bumped my door my insurance said the cost of repairs were more than the car was worth, but it was too good to scrap so they offered me a lump sum to get the repairs done myself.

You've been unlucky, but lucky, if you see what I mean. A couple of inches to the right and it would be a definite write off.

I really couldn't hazard a guess at what you'd pay for repairs, that seems dependant on where you live and who quotes you for the job, but I wouldn't give up hope ;)

Deja vue... had identical damage (though on the right-hand side) with my previous Omega, the rear wing was replaced and the boot and rear panel re-sparyed, I did it at a Vx dealer (who used a local body shop...) and the bill was £1,300 inc VAT, so had I done this on the cheap using a smaller garage directly I would have probably paid half that. I didn't mind the bill at the time because the insurance paid, which was a mistake but this is another matter... The car was OK after that but you could see the repair if you know how to look. Hope this info helps...

Glad you got it sorted!

Cheers... if its anything like that then its a write off for sure! Have just checked the boot and there is no damage to it at all which is a bonus

the gent has fully admitted liability and I have a ref to chase up tomorrow

This is sick, so close to Xmas.... Just have a look at a Lexus IS200

Thats it reported and hire car on way!

Was thinking about it and if the car is written off then I may buy something else... Don't get me wrong, I love this car but every month something else is going wrong....

Also thinking about a Vectra GSI or Saab 9-3

Does anyone know how much a new back panel is?

Many thanks

It is much preferable to repair th epanel rather than changeing it as it will make the car more prone to rust. Just find a good panel beater.

I agree in principal, but this one has a cut through it and also there is the inside bits so panel beaters are likely to be reluctant to do this based on cost - it will take less work to replace the panel then repair it.
