Vectra damage has been assessed....
« on: 10 September 2007, 07:42:36 »

The assessor has looked at the Vectra. He has confirmed that the slam panel is knackered, and it has also caused a split underneith. Bumper and tailgate need replacing.

At first, he was commenting that it would be a definate write off -

However, when he saw it was factory LPG converted, he said "that will hugely increase it's value, so it may be worth fixing".

That's not such good news, I want the bugger written off  >:(

I am awaiting him to do costings, and produce a report. Only then will I hear...

He did also mention a "cash in leiu" deal may be the offer, instead of a total loss, whereas insurance would give me X amount of pounds, and I get to keep the car..  :-/

Good job you did go down the insurance route.... ;)

Not sure about cash in lieu but when my estate was written off the offer was buy it back for 10%.....id have thought it would have been similar.

Bear in mind that the offer from Ins Co is negotiable and most first offers are not the best.  Still worth keeping Autotrader etc valuations of current market prices to reinforce your personal valuation if required.

Salvage value paid under contract by large breaker dealers is generally 10% of bottom book (GlassesGuide valuations) irrespective of whether car has a broken headlight or a total burnout.

Good idea, make sure that they are trader forecourt valuations and not private sales then you will optimise the value.

AFAIK if they "write it off" it will be logged as such at DVLC and HPI (although they are so often wrong it's ridiculous!) which decreases any resale value dramatically... however ... if they offer "cash in lieu" and you keep the car and the cash it is not so registered.. it is not "formaly" written off .. so the resale value once you have spent the money doing it up is much higher ?

Possibly worth thinking on ??

Sorry, dissagree here.....

If the InsCo pay out (be that by giving forth full cash settlement or if its partial cash/partial return of 'salvage') then its declared as an insurance total loss and duly recorded.  Only way it may not potentially be is if it was insured third party and the policy holder (James, in this case) was held liable which of course, does not apply in this case.
