Does anyone know a simple fix for the following:

When the side windows are covered in water and I run the window up and down to clear them, it doesn't do anything anymore (sometimes just smears them). I've noticed it getting worse so presume its the rubbers getting hard with age (and it always seems to work well on newer cars).

Is there anyway to restore the rubbers or is it a replacement job?

Is this an Omega thing then? Mrs. Ghosts Pug 407 clears the windows beutifully when lowered then raised.

Have to wipe the back window every morning just to reverse off the drive too. Why don't they put rear screen wipers on saloons? The only one I ever saw was a Ford Orion.

Saloon doesn't really need one, as it shouldn't get dirty.  Also, it would be a challenge to get it to decently wipe with it due to size/shape/curve of window.

That was the only time I really used the wiper on my 626 was in the morning to clear it. You're right, it doesn't get dirty when driving and when you're out on the open road it clears itself. Bugger all good though for reversing off the drive and for the first 5 miles of a 6 mile journey to work.

Any thoughts on the side windows? Did anyones rubber clear the windows of water from new or should I just give up and live with the cloth or squeegee in the morning?

You coudl try giving thema realy good clean and scrub to remove any crap.....some bumper cleaner will help to soften the visable part..

Ive noticed this on mine too.....i usually drop all the windows in the morning to clear the condensation/rain......but it doesnt do much to clear them.....tho i have noticed on other cars it does do a decent job.....i just assumed the seal on the omegas doesnt press on the window all the time....
glad mine has a rear wiper....very useful   espcially as i changed the wiper arm on it the other day....it was missing a chunk of the rear window at the bottom in the middle.....now clears all of it.....guess the spring on the old one was getting weak!.....tho the new wiper arm didnt come with a bolt cover...which i have missing and assumed the new one would

The bolt covers are only about 50p!

Mine's pretty good at clearing the top two thirds.  I do clean them regularly with glass cleaner which reduces the waters ability to 'stick'.  It isn't as good though as when the car was new.  :-/

I didn't know it was supposed to do that... modern cars run 'wet doors', i.e. the water is supposed to go in through the door and drain at the bottom.
