Is this too good to be true?
« on: 03 February 2007, 22:53:32 »

Hi everyone, have at last sold my old Jag and am now looking for an Omega.

To this end have bidded on several on ebay, and am currently winning on this item no '270085395764'. However on reading posts here about how easy the car is to clock and the posted mileage am a little concerned.

Thought I would ask what others thought on here.... :-/

Personally i wouldnt go much higher if at all...

he is a dealer - has good feedback albeit ona small number of cars...

service history is there and cambelt change too....just inspect it all - dates, miles and ask to see reciepts etc. Even call servicing garage.

Check also the usual things....wear on seats etc, steering wheel pedals that may suggest higher miles...and considor an hpi via ebay.

Outwith that check the usual omega weaknesses that ocurr on any omega  :y

Check tensioner was done with belt

Good luck

Its already high, don't bid above £500.

Omega's can be easy to clock, due to the fact they hide mileage well.

My 2.2 has done 98k, I could put it to 50k and I doubt anyone would notice unless the look closer.

Tell tale signs are...

Seats, check the outside edges for ware, smooth pedals are often a sign of high miles. Particularly brake pedal on Auto's, also check the steering wheel, they show age on top and sides due to the leather...

i would be concerned that an 11yr old motorway cruiser has averaged less than 7k per year...

at 76k, there should be no signs of wear, both front seats should be equally hard, pedal rubbers perfect, no flaking of steering wheel leather of wear around g/box...

DONT be scared of pulling out of a deal via EBay !

I think you will find NOTHING IS LEGALLY BINDING about placing a bid !

Not the nicest of things to do after having bid on an article, BUT its your dosh at the end of the day , bugger supposed EBay rules !

If seller threatens you for pulling out, tell him to go boil his head !

Did you find out what class of write off? It could just be that it was thought to be to expensive to repair by the insurance company, just a new wing could do that (possibly). The cam belt should be changed after 4 years so find out the date, as well as the tensioners as others have said.Coolant changes are nearly as important as the cam belt on these.

Only states a total loss write off, also car just does not ring true...judging by previous sales, the seller seems to have a very good 'knack' of picking up very low mileage cars to sell...call me suspicious but....
