Power Steering Box
« on: 23 February 2007, 19:25:09 »

How Do Everyone!

Had my Auto 2.2 CD for a couple of weeks now and the power steering has been playing up.
It is knocking off when I am parking up. Took it back to the garage who in turn has taken
it to a Vauxhall dealer for a diagnostic check. Apparently it needs a new power steering box.
The pump is working fine.

My question is that although my car is 6 years it only has 36000 miles on it. Should this
type of fault be occuring so soon? Or is it because it is 6 years old and not necessarliy
the amount of mileage.

And finally how much does one of these boxes cost and are they simple to fit?
I have trawled this site and the internet but can't find any answers.

Cheers

Can't offer much help here, but my 2.2 is 5 years old (41K) and no probs with power steering.

You say you've had the car for a couple of weeks? Did you not get a warranty with it?

Can you explain what you mean by knocking off? You lose power assistance? Only at low revs? If so, get a second opinion - sounds like a tired pump...
