It got too embarassing.....
« on: 12 March 2007, 17:24:23 »

Driving about this morning with passengers and my front brakes squealing/grinding and making general noises that would make you assume the wheels were about to fall off!

So off to vx dealer at 10am this morning....
Came out with front pad and disk kit and new sensor

Had a look at Tunnies/TB's how to  :y and got stuck in.....

Soon off to Halfauds to get a 18mm socket.....as i didnt have one  :(

Went quite well......discs came off easily....and i noticed evidence of copper grease had been used....so after I cleaned up the hub....before fitting the new discs I applied some copper grease.

Also put copper grease on the back of the pads before fitting them.

I was a lot quicker doing the 2nd side.

Took me about 5 hours  :-[ but as id never changed pads before, let alone discs I took my time....as brakes are fairly important things  ::)

Took it for a spin and pure silence from the brakes.....no squeaks...grinding or anything....just stopping going on  :y

Only real prob i had was with the pad sensor.....see my other thread...

Im knackered now  ;D

You & me both then! It was commented on at the dealers too, not surprisingly they didn't have a clue either. I just reused the old bolts with a spot of Locktite.

The bolts come as part of the 'pad kit' bit, and is for the lower caliper bolt (if just doing pads, you would only undo bottom caliper bolt, and pivot caliper upwards).

Were they for the discs?

The disks are only held in place by the allen key bolt and the wheel bolts

nice one TD, well done m8  :y

Might be worth change and flushing the brake fluid though when you get a chance, also force the stuff out of the calipers. Made a big difference to mine  :y
