Ok, front cam cap.....

Rear half moon....

You dont realy need the smear around the surface of the half moon but, its a good spot to clean your finger....

Note, its not the right sealent....it should be black but, my black sealent went walkies at the cambelt party..... :(

Thanks Mark, that is excellent - big help, I think I've probably gotton away with it on the drivers side, passenger side still leaking into the plug wells, so more than probable that the covers warped - new one tomorrow, then all should be well after another allnighter :D  Although one side should take me a lot less time!

The sealant I got from Vx is P/N 90485251. However according to EPC:

90485251 - COMPOUND,SEALING,50 ML,OIL PUMP TO CYLINDER BLOCK

90094714 - CYLINDER HEAD COVER AND GASKETS - SEALING COMPOUND (NLS.- USE 90542114 15 03 170)

So which is it then...? 90485251 or 90094714?

According to that it's 90542114 but I've just looked at mine and it's 90485251. It's deffinately black and rubbery when set.

I was sold and used 90485251 black goo......i might be wrong but the 90094714 might be the green snot that shouldnt be used.

Isn't the green stuff for use on metal to metal seals?  (less flex needed than plastic/rubber - alloy)

Also, I am guessing that 'NLS' stands for No Longer Supplied (or something similar) - so the plot thickens, since according to EPC the correct P/N is actually 90542114...

Just to clarify, it seems that everyone here have been using 90485251 and the results are good, so this is good enough for me... just wondering about the P/Ns on EPC, that's all.

Used the green initially, prior to the cheapo gaskets giving up, when I removed them the green had gone a beige colour, probably heat or oil ingress, if oil ingress surely there's a permiability factor.  Anyway all blacked up now with decent VX gaskets and seems dry..

Mark are you still looking into getting hold of some of these kits? If so I'm interested, still haven't got round to mine :-[ No real problems though so it's obviously not too bad, and I've got new leads to fit at the same time so I don't care about the old ones getting wrecked.

I have now done this job on the passenger side for the third time with a new genuine cover + gaskets + sealant.

Thank you so much for all the help as it now appears to be holding, despite a good thrashing this morning which couldn't be helped due to my mood when being cut up by an audi 2.0T and a golf TDi - needless to say, they both got owned when I'd finished.

Thanks again, especially mark for taking that photo of where exactly the sealant goes - excellent work  :y
