autobox wont fit

on got my engine into the car, but.... the saft protruding from the torque converter is too wide to fit into the crank end float....  :-/ so i now have a 3.0l and manual box i can do absoloutly nothing with....

anyone want a swap for a 3.0 or 2.5 auto engine. i urgently need it....

unless theres another way?

Was the engine from a manual car then.....if so, pop the spigot bearing out the end of the crank....

yeah the engine was from a manual... how can i remove the spigot bearing?? been told to lathe down the stud from the front of the torque converter but bit dubious  :o will a haynes tell me how to remove the bearing  :-/

If you can't get ahold of it, find a rod/something that fits loosely in the center hole.  Pack grease in behind and out the hole.  Pound the rod/whatever in and the grease will drive the bearing out.  You will probably have to stop and add grease a few times.

I'm NOT sure about the spigots on VX, but on the Fords they are needle racer bearings, they can be removed easily with a bolt, simply find one that needs to be threaded in, you can then wrench / lever it out.. Converted my auto Granny mk1 to a 4 sp manual many moons ago..

The grease trick is the best one......

Sorry Rob, couldn't call last night, ended up at casualty because no1 son wasn't looking where he was running and split his head open.....again!

Can't you just fit the manual box? It will be more work (pedal box and clutch plumbing) but worth the effort IMO since you already have the bits.

dont have any of the bits (clutch slave cyl, pedal, plumbing....) plus im happt with the 3.0 and auto box. my 2.5 that i "played about with" was pretty quick and i intend to do the same with the 3  :D woooooosh past a lil saxo vtr/vts  :y

 :'( ok. i have had no luck with the grease trick. i used a socket extention the only just fits in the hole, bashed it with a hammer and the bearing didnt budge... can the stub on the TC be milled down :question only need a few mm's seems to be where the stub bells out towards the end thats stoppin it....  :-/

What about putting a Rawl bolt [expanding type]  or similar in the hole and using something to pull on it . Just a thought ?
