Hi,

Can someone tell me whereabouts the level plug is on an autobox, i.e drivers side, engine side?  Is it on the box or on the bit leading to the big sump?

got it jacked up right now but not sure what I'm looking for!!!

Which ever complete tw*t owned this car before me at some point is really starting to get on my tits.

The level plug is rounded off!!

I gave up with that and have done my cam cover (got the nice new gm with gm gaskets and o-rings for £57 + VAT today   ) on the passenger side, touch wood all will be well with it...

As for the autobox, looks like it'll be a new sump cover - that won't be a messy job AT ALL seeing as I won't be able to drain the bloody thing before hand!!

You also would not believe what happened this morning before I went to pick up my elite wheels, filled up to full for the first time since buying the car - £40 quid in and its popping the handle.. hmmm £40 isn't enough, £30 quid only half fills - so I carry on..

10 secs later STRONG smell of fuel, look at the handle and filler neck, nothing.. now I can hear it running - woman behind me shouting STOP!  Look down, its absolutely gushing out from under neath, we're talking waterfall gushing here!

1 hour, lots of sand, and an AA man later - some fool hasn't tightened up the seal around the fuel pump on top of the tank....      

Got my wheels eventually, when I've finished tarting them up it might not be such an all bad day!!!

Dunno the location of the sump plug for the gearbox, but file/molegrips and lump hammer springs to mind.....tho if its recessed.....thats that idea knackered.

I would be inclined to take the sump off and then try drilling out the plug or using a stud extractor to remove it.

Chances are the sump will be ok. Might need to run a tap through the threads afterwards.

As for the fuel tank...

Sounds like like you've had more than your fair share with that car recently

You could drill a small hole to drain the oil first, then seal it back up from the inside using a mushroom seal (like the ones used to fix punctures) and silicone after you have got the rounded screw out.

Arc a nut to the rounded bolt and use a socket.

If you dont have an arc any garage (decent) should do it for peanuts 2 min job

Cheers for the suggestions, at the end of the month when I have money again I'll be sorting this and a few other annoyances..

I guess you could drill through the old sump plug to drain it and avoid damaging the rest of the sump - if there's room. Maybe with a 90 degree drill chuck?

Heat and Stillsons!  It's not funny, I've seen a sump twist and contort with this kind of problem!  Can be costly...  How many money is the sump from VX?
