Got Exhaust Manifold From Scrappy
« on: 23 March 2007, 13:26:03 »

Went down to the scrap yards there are about 6 all together and acouple had some omegas and vectras but the manifolds were cracked on those also. they all wanted 20 quid.

Took One out of a vectra but after looking at it, it was slightly different in shape from mine and it had two bolts sheared of for the heat shield so i thought Nope move on.

Anyway found one 2 litre omega without a cracked Manifold Yeah But he wanted 30 quid the bugger so i said yes thats fine thinking ill make up the 10 quid in bits ill light finger.

Anyway after loads of hasstle released all the bolts attaching the manifold to the head fine and all the bolts attached to the down pipe fine apart from one sheared off.

How hard will it be to drill this bolt out ? I have never drilled a bolt out before, i know you start with a small bit and work up to bigger.

Its going to be a right pain putting this in i know.

Well done on the re-cycling. To get the sheared bolt out try to get a good quality co-bolt drill. They are a lot harder than the standard high speed drills.

We use them to take out broken studs from jet engines. :o :o

You could also try using a stud extractor - the "EZ out" type clicky Careful though cos a broken extractor is harder to remove than the original bolt. A lot of heat can also be very useful.

I have also had some very good success with things like these, in particular, the left hand drill bits.  Remember to centre punch the middle of the stud first to stop the drill walking.....

As stated, the heat and torque from anticlockwise drilling is sometimes enough to remove the broken stud without resorting to the EasyOuts.  A snapped easyout is a complete pain in the chuff to remove. >:(

Yeah Got it out fine.

Just Drilled it larger and Larger and then collapsed the remainder in on it's Self

All Fitted still abit noisey but i am going to replace the back box to see if it helps.
