Hissing plenum
« on: 30 March 2007, 16:44:36 »

Whilst under the bonnet looking for a squeak with the engine running (turned out to be drive belt) i've noticed a hiss coming from around the back of the pleum when the car is idling, it's hard to tell if it's still there when you open the throttle because of the engine noise but there is definately a sort of muffled hissing sound present when it's just on tick over.

Is this just air moving through the plenum or could it be a leak from somewhere?

It might be a leak and certianly worth checking, particularly as its coming from the rear......

The plenum normaly does hiss but, it tends to be nearer the front...

Check the breathers, they can split and ruin the  running characteristics.
